Reasons to Vote For or Against University Park Tax Referendum

Residents have asked the City Council for additional public safety resources.

Governor Abbott’s priorities for the 2027 Legislature include a 3.5% cap on growth in local government spending and higher voter approval thresholds, which will reduce the City’s ability in the future to be responsive to community priorities. Best to deal with University Park’s needs before additional restrictions are enacted.

University Park should explore other avenues for funding improvements. Additional public safety positions might be funded with state or federal grants. Costs could be cut in other areas to fund Public Safety Pension benefits. Parking technology upgrades could perhaps be deferred.

Taxes are too high. If we experience an economic downturn or recession, it will be difficult for taxpayers to afford this tax rate.
