City of Austin Proposition H
The Ballot Language and Explanation are repeated identically under For and Against.City of Austin Charter Amendments Background: The City Charter sets up how Austin city government is organized and outlines basic rules for how it operates. It also shows how residents can be involved in the City's decision-making process. Austin voters will consider eight proposed amendments to the City Charter, Propositions C through J. Most resulted from a City review of the Charter. Proposition I was placed on the ballot through a citizen petition. Each proposition would change a different part of the Charter and is voted on separately.

Shall the City Charter be amended to provide that the City Council appoints and removes the City Attorney?
The City Attorney provides legal advice to the City and represents the City in legal matters. The City Manager, who is responsible for day-to-day operations and reports to City Council, currently appoints the City Attorney. Proposition H would instead give the City Council authority to appoint and remove the City Attorney.
A vote FOR would give the City Council this authority.
A vote AGAINST would keep the current process.
