City of Austin Proposition G

The Ballot Language and Explanation are repeated identically under For and Against.City of Austin Charter Amendments Background: The City Charter sets up how Austin city government is organized and outlines basic rules for how it operates. It also shows how residents can be involved in the City's decision-making process. Austin voters will consider eight proposed amendments to the City Charter, Propositions C through J. Most resulted from a City review of the Charter. Proposition I was placed on the ballot through a citizen petition. Each proposition would change a different part of the Charter and is voted on separately.

Shall the City Charter be amended to provide that initiative elections and petitioned charter amendment elections must be held on the next available November election date that occurs in an even-numbered year and that allows sufficient time to comply with other requirements of law?
Austin residents can use petitions to propose City ordinances or changes to the City Charter and put them before voters if the petitions meet legal requirements. Proposition G would require these citizen-initiated elections to be held at the next eligible November election in an even-numbered year. This could mean a longer wait before voters decide on a citizen-initiated proposal.

A vote FOR would require these elections to be held at the next eligible November election in an even-numbered year.

A vote AGAINST would leave the current election schedule rules unchanged.
