City of Austin Proposition E
The Ballot Language and Explanation are repeated identically under For and Against.City of Austin Charter Amendments Background: The City Charter sets up how Austin city government is organized and outlines basic rules for how it operates. It also shows how residents can be involved in the City's decision-making process. Austin voters will consider eight proposed amendments to the City Charter, Propositions C through J. Most resulted from a City review of the Charter. Proposition I was placed on the ballot through a citizen petition. Each proposition would change a different part of the Charter and is voted on separately.

Shall the City Charter be amended to delete language requiring the City Council to determine its rules and order of business by ordinance?
The City Charter currently requires the City Council to create and adopt its meeting rules and order of business by ordinance (otherwise known as a local law). Proposition E would remove the requirement. The City Council could use another method instead.
A vote FOR would remove the requirement that Council rules be adopted by ordinance.
A vote AGAINST would keep the current requirement.
