What do you hope to accomplish if elected as a Council Member?

What will you do to improve communication surrounding Jasper County Council proceedings and decision making to the public?

Jasper County has been named one of the fastest growing counties in the country. Our existing infrastructure, specifically sewer and water, often does not support this rapid growth. How do you plan to address these deficiencies?

As part of the Jasper County Comprehensive Plan Survey, data shows that most of the respondents desire that the county remain rural. How will you balance this data against growth?

Strengthen our communities by ensuring the County has access to community facilities. Provide safe places for children to learn, play, grow and give families and seniors opportunities to connect. Work towards updating existing facilities. Expanding access to community centers. Preserve and enhance our outdoor resources. Revitalize boat landings. Financial responsibility. Taxpayers deserve for their money to be spent wisely and effectively. Invest in projects that provide long term benefits. Support infrastructure-first approach. Prioritize investing in water and sewer capacity. If we plan appropriately, we can shape growth that benefits current residents, future generations, and overall economic health of Jasper County.
Start with greater transparency. Residents should have easy access to information about developments, infrastructure projects, budget decisions, and planning initiatives before final decisions are made. Provide clear and easy to understand summaries instead of attending every council meeting. Support using communications platforms. public forums, town hall meetings, social media, county website, community outreach. Incorporate surveys on Jasper website on topics that are being brought to the table. I want Jasper to have a voice. Trust is built when citizens feel informed, heard, and respected. I would like to create a culture of openness and engagement where residents understand what decisions are being made and why.
I believe growth should not outpace infrastructure. Before approving large scale developments, we must have a comprehensive plan that shows where water and sewer services can expand, what improvements are needed to transportation networks and how public safety, schools, and essential services will be impacted. Infrastructure will be a major focus. Jasper is experiencing huge growth. We must ensure our roads, bridges, water systems, and other critical infrastructure can support that growth. We should aggressively pursue state and federal funding opportunities to help offset costs to local taxpayers. Given our location along one of the busiest stretches of 95, Jasper supports transportation, commerce and public safety for travelers.
After living in Jasper for 60 years, I have seen the change in our county from a largely rural community with little growth to one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. Our rural character is what makes Jasper unique and why many choose to live here. Growth is inevitable. The challenge is how we manage it. We focus on smart, controlled growth that protects the county's rural identify while accommodating future development. Direct higher density development to appropriate areas near existing infrastructure, preserve agricultural lands and natural resources, maintain adequate buffers between developments, ensure roads, public safety, schools and utilities keep pace with growth.
