Im currently on the Detroit Public Schools Community District's Advisory Committee which is a 2yr seat. I've sat tables with school board members, superintendent, city council and the State Board of Education. I've questioned contracts, policies and practices concerning the district at meetings . I've communicated proactive ideas to the school board and superintendent in which some have been heard and implemented. I have over 15 yrs of community engagement and advocacy in Detroit Public Schools (DPSCD) . I'm also a non bias, proactive , encouraging leadership.
That a transportation analyst be done every year to 2 years. The district hasn't currently done a transportation analyst sadly since 2022. More attendance agents should be hired and gas cards should be given to more than just the homeless population. Accountability to parents if given assistance to make sure money and resources aren't being wasted. The district has not truly invested in transportation . The city of Detroit is saving the district $700 k because students now ride for the ddot busses for free . The savings should be invested back in transportation.
When elected I will have meetings at my assigned schools Parents need to know board members are accessible. Parents also need to know the chain of communication when reporting questions and concerns. Years (before this board president)of disregarding and disrespecting parents/stakeholders is the main reason why it's low participation at district meetings. Cutting public comment registration off too quickly also discourage families for coming to meetings.Along with minimizing the talking time for public comment depending on the count is unjust.

I've been an BAMN activist fighting to defend public education and affirmative action for 19 years. I'm running for school board because Trump's fascist admin is an existential threat to public ed and democracy. Detroit's new school board must be fighting to remove him. Beyond that, I believe Detroit can become the nation's beacon of how to defend, rebuild, and expand public ed. As a leader in this movement I'll bring Detroit’s fighting spirit to the board. I run on the BAMN slate because we all share that goal.
If we had more school buildings, more broadly and consistently provided transportation to school, improved and expanded access to virtual education, expanded programs for students, had more teachers, more staff available, smaller class sizes, protected our students from ICE raids making our buildings the safest place for our migrant community, had more mental health staff on hand, and more resources to raise the standard of living for Detroiters, that would greatly reduce the chronic absenteeism. Because it's not chronic absenteeism. It's chronic abandonment of our students that drives them away.
1. Hold regular tribunals on ICE and police brutality and harassment and Town Hall meetings at different schools and libraries throughout the district where community members can speak out, make grievances and, together, we can hash out a plan of action. These should be publicized via phone, newsletter, on the website and every form of social media. 2. Hold school board meetings in every part of the city with whatever interpreters are necessary. 3. Build student, worker, community defense guard networks to drive ICE out of our schools and out of our communities. 4. Hold office hours daily in different school buildings throughout the district.
