Diversity. STCS serves a racially, socially, and economically diverse student body. Nearly half of students (48.5%) are economically disadvantaged, and 17.9% receive special education services. This diversity is a strength because it gives students opportunities to learn alongside people with different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives—helping prepare them for life beyond the classroom. Strong graduation outcomes at Heritage High School. Heritage has a four-year graduation rate of 90.9%. This reflects the commitment of students, families, educators, and staff to helping young people remain engaged and successfully complete high school.
In recent years, I have served on the State of Michigan Foster Care Review Board, Saginaw County Child Death Review Team, Fatal Infant Mortality Review Team, DHHS Disparity of Care Taskforce, and Saginaw County Child Death Review Board. I also serve as Co-Pastor of Journey of Grace Church of the Nazarene, Prevention Education Director for the CAN Council Great Lakes Bay Region, and up until my school board appointment I served as President of the Heritage High School Music Boosters. Through these roles, I advocate for children, families, equitable systems, and stronger communities.
Since joining the Board of Education in February, I have gained firsthand experience in governance, policy review, budgeting, and collaborative decision-making. As a prevention education director, social scientist, co-pastor, former substitute teacher, and parent of STCS students, I understand both the systems that serve children and the experiences of families navigating them. My work across education, child welfare, public health, and community organizations has strengthened my ability to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, build partnerships, and make decisions that keep every student at the center.
The most important challenges are strengthening cultural awareness, improving academic outcomes in core subjects, and addressing building safety needs despite unsuccessful bond proposals. I will support policies, procedures, and professional learning that foster belonging, respect, and accountability across our diverse district. I will use achievement and growth data to guide questions, evaluate strategies, and advocate for resources that improve student learning. I will also work collaboratively to prioritize urgent facility needs, communicate costs transparently, explore alternative funding, and rebuild community trust around a responsible long-term plan.
I am running because every student deserves to feel safe, supported, challenged, and valued—every student, every day. My family has been part of STCS for eight years, and I have served our schools as a parent, volunteer, substitute teacher, prevention educator, and Board member. Since my appointment in February, I have listened, learned, asked thoughtful questions, and worked to strengthen transparency and community trust. I am now asking voters to allow me to continue this work: improving academic outcomes, supporting culturally responsive practices, addressing building safety needs, and ensuring students remain at the center of every decision. I am committed to listening with HOPE and leading with heart.
