Trustees are elected to specific positions but represent their entire independent school district and have the following responsibilities mandated by State and Federal laws: select and employ the superintendent, manage public schools, establish operating policies, monitor expenses, adopt and approve a budget, and adopt employment policies. Additionally, they have the authority to set tax rates, levy and collect taxes, buy and sell property, exercise eminent domain, accept donations, charge fees, and call bond elections. Trustees elect their own officers: President or Chair, (Vice president or vice chair), Secretary and Treasurer.
Occupation
Substitute Teacher
Keller High School graduate with college coursework in paralegal studies. 13+ years of KISD involvement as PTA President, Long Range Planning Committee member, and substitute teacher. HOA Director representing 4,600 homes. Mother and caregiver to my son after a spinal cord injury, with firsthand experience navigating disability, accessibility, and educational needs.
My background combines years of service in Keller ISD with hands-on governance experience. I’ve served as PTA President, a district volunteer, Long Range Planning Committee member, and substitute educator. I’ve spent years attending school board meetings and advocating for public education. As an HOA Director representing 4,600 homes, I also have experience with budgets, contracts, facilities, and accountability.
Keller ISD should follow the law and appropriate legal procedures regarding any law enforcement presence on campus. I respect the role of federal law enforcement, and I also believe we must uphold the constitutional rights guaranteed to every individual. These situations should be handled responsibly, with due process, student safety, privacy, and minimal disruption to the learning environment.
The proposed Keller ISD split showed why transparency must begin early, not as a vote approaches. The entire Board should discuss major proposals openly, with supporting information released early enough for the public to understand the impact. I support public meetings, meaningful opportunities for community input, and adequate time for questions and feedback before the Board takes action.
Having worked in a public library for nearly five years, I have firsthand experience with book challenges, including when Harry Potter was challenged over concerns about witchcraft. I understand that concerns about books are not new, and I believe parents should be taken seriously. There should be a clear, transparent review process, and school materials should be age-appropriate and follow district standards.
Keller ISD’s biggest challenges are declining enrollment, staff retention, aging facilities, special education needs, and financial sustainability. We need a long-term plan aligning enrollment, staffing, facilities, and spending while protecting classrooms. I also plan to advocate in Austin to replace Average Daily Attendance with enrollment-based funding. If the state can fund its voucher program based on enrollment, our public schools deserve the same consideration.
