I’m a Dearborn Heights resident, mom, small business owner, licensed realtor, insurance professional, and proud union member of OPEIU Local 277. I currently serve as a member of the Dearborn Heights Women & Girls Commission and have spent years serving my community and supporting residents, families, and local organizations. My professional and civic experiences have taught me the importance of collaboration, accountability, and understanding the needs of the people I serve. As a Charter Commissioner, I will bring that same approach to this historic opportunity by listening to residents, working collaboratively, asking thoughtful questions, and ensuring the Charter reflects the needs of the community I call home.
I will prioritize ensuring our Charter is current, balanced, accountable, and transparent. That includes reviewing outdated provisions, ensuring they align with current state law and how our city operates, and clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of elected officials, departments, boards, and commissions. I also want to ensure our Charter provides clear processes for responsible decision making, transparency, and accountability in local government. Throughout the process, I will prioritize meaningful resident input and accessibility, making sure residents have opportunities to understand the issues, share their perspectives, and help shape a Charter that serves our community for years to come.
I envision a Dearborn Heights where residents understand how their city operates, know who is responsible for decisions, and have meaningful opportunities to participate in shaping their community. I want our Charter to provide a strong foundation for effective, accountable, and transparent local government while reflecting the needs of Dearborn Heights today and preparing our city for the future. Most importantly, I want this process to strengthen residents connection to their city, encourage greater civic participation, and help build a community where families like mine can continue to feel a sense of belonging, opportunity, and pride for generations to come.

Having served more than 17 years in leadership roles within Dearborn Heights government while maintaining a longstanding commitment to the community, I understand the importance of effective governance and sound public policy. I have also worked in the state legislature and nonprofit sector and hold master's degrees in finance and business administration. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the City Charter and its role as our local constitution. As a Charter Commissioner, I will promote responsible decision-making, update outdated and overly specific language, ensure the charter remains adaptable to the city's evolving needs, and preserve a clear and fair balance of power that serves residents for generations to come.
My priorities are preservation, education, and responsible governance. The charter is the foundation of our government, and I will preserve its integrity, protect its checks and balances, and ensure any revisions strengthen, not weaken, the framework that serves our residents. Residents deserve a clear understanding of the charter and its importance as the cornerstone of our local government. I will support efforts to educate the community about its purpose and role in government. The charter should support transparent, accountable, and effective government. I will approach any proposed changes thoughtfully, ensuring they are necessary, carefully considered, and in the long-term best interest of Dearborn Heights.
My vision for Dearborn Heights is a community where residents trust their government to be transparent, accountable, and focused on their best interests. As a Charter Commissioner, my responsibility is not to determine the city’s future direction, but to preserve the charter’s integrity and maintain the checks and balances that protect the public. The charter review process provides an opportunity to ensure the charter continues to support the community's vision for the future while preserving the governmental framework that promotes transparency, accountability, and effective governance.

I’m a lifelong Dearborn Heights resident, a product of Crestwood High School and the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and an organizer, advocate, and coalition builder.

I have more than a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership, political advocacy, and public service. My career has focused on bringing people together, developing leaders, and making institutions more responsive to the people they serve. In 2017, I founded the Dearborn Heights Commission on Women and Girls and successfully advocated for a Charter amendment to make it permanent.

These experiences taught me how to listen to different perspectives, build consensus, understand how government works, and turn community ideas into practical solutions.
I want to prioritize 3 areas:

1. Effective and ethical government. I want to examine outdated Charter structures that make it harder for city government to operate effectively, while supporting strong ethics, conflict-of-interest, financial disclosure, and accountability standards.

2. Meaningful public participation. I would strengthen opportunities for residents to participate through public hearings, access to information, and citizen-led initiatives.

3. Long-term sustainability. I want the Charter to give Dearborn Heights the tools to maintain essential services and infrastructure while protecting taxpayers and maintaining transparency. It should also prepare us for modern challenges, including responsible use of technology and AI.
Dearborn Heights is undertaking its first Charter review in more than 60 years. I see this as an opportunity to build a government that reflects the community we are today and prepares us for the future.

I envision a city where residents can trust that their government has the resources, systems, and accountability to respond when their community needs it. People should be able to understand how decisions are made, see where their tax dollars go, and have meaningful opportunities to shape their community.

Our Charter should provide a strong foundation for reliable services, sustainable finances, transparency, and public participation while giving our city the flexibility to adapt to the challenges ahead.

Born and raised in Detroit; I have been a resident of Dearborn Heights for over 3 decades and have raised our family here. My experience as a teacher and substitute in the Dearborn Heights and surrounding communities has given me attention to detail, respect of multiple opinions and ability to align interests logically. The past decade of working as a precinct chairperson and election worker in Dearborn Heights would be the most direct demonstration of my leadership ability to work with others and serve our community As a Charter Commissioner, I would carefully consider what is working, what is in need of modernizing, and what changes would best serve all community members for the foreseeable future.
I believe the charter should be thoughtfully updated where needed. The question of why any area should be changed and how will it impact the city and all residents will be part of every decision. I would plan, in conjunction with other commission members, to meticulously review the entire city charter; revising areas that have been outdated. My priority would be to review each potential change in a diligent manner and end up with a charter that respects the original intentions yet is serviceable for years to come.
My vision for the future of Dearborn Heights is that it be considered a desirable place to live, work or run a business. I would like changes to be ones that will promote a thriving community of diverse individuals, growing as well as established families, retired and senior residents. Our Charter needs to be reviewed to remove outdated sections while taking into account what is in the best interest of advancing the city well into the future.

I worked under and with the City Charter for the 26 years that I was the elected Treasurer for the City of Dearborn Heights. I would supply valuable input to the Charter's review.
I would prioritize working with the other Charter Commissioners to deliver to the Citizens of Dearborn Heights the best revised Charter that we were able to produce.
My vision is that the revised Charter would allow Dearborn Heights to be the "City With A Future".

I am a lifelong Dearborn Heights resident with nearly 20 years of municipal government experience, including almost 15 years as the City’s Human Resources Director. I hold an MBA and a bachelor’s degree, and my education and career have given me a foundation in municipal operations, finance, management, and public service. During my time with Dearborn Heights, I did not simply read the Charter—I lived it. I worked through leadership transitions, vacancies, budget challenges, civil service matters, labor issues, and daily operations. That experience gives me a practical understanding of how Charter language affects City government, employees, elected officials, and residents while supporting accountability, stability, and effective service.
I saw firsthand how Charter language can either support effective government or create uncertainty when difficult situations arise. That is why strengthening succession planning is one of my priorities. Vacancies and unexpected leadership transitions should not create unnecessary disruption or confusion. I also want to preserve the provisions of the Charter that already work well. My approach will be practical and open-minded: identify problems, understand their real-world impact, and consider thoughtful changes that promote stable, accountable, and effective City government.
My vision is a Dearborn Heights with stable, professional, and responsive City government that residents can trust. The Charter should provide a strong foundation for that future by clearly defining responsibilities, preparing the City of Dearborn Heights for leadership transitions, reducing unnecessary conflict and ambiguity, and ensuring qualified people to effectively serve the community. I want the Charter Commission to look beyond the challenges of today and create a document that will serve Dearborn Heights well for decades to come.

I have been a Dearborn Heights resident since 1989 and retired in 2020 from Beaumont Hospital Dearborn after 28 years as a Registered Nurse. During my career, I served on several committees focused on improving patient outcomes and shaping hospital policy. My connection to this community is also deeply personal. My late husband served as a Lieutenant with the Dearborn Heights Police Department, and I raised our two children here, both of whom are Crestwood graduates. I have always believed in giving back and have volunteered with the Red Cross, the animal shelter, and as a poll worker, while also serving as GMCA President. I would be honored to bring my experience, community knowledge, and commitment to service to the Charter Commission.
My priorities are to modernize the City Charter thoughtfully, without abandoning the framework that has served Dearborn Heights for decades; remove outdated Charter restrictions that hinder government efficacy so that taxpayer dollars are used wisely and unnecessary costs are reduced; and strengthen protections for city employees. I especially want to help recognize and retain experienced public servants by ensuring qualified employees have meaningful opportunities to advance into leadership roles and are not subject to burnout from dealing with unnecessarily limiting Charter provisions. Investing in the people who serve our city can build loyalty, preserve institutional knowledge, and strengthen service to all Dearborn Heights residents.
I envision a Dearborn Heights with a modern, practical City Charter that meets the needs of today while preserving what makes our community strong. Our city’s diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and I believe we are strongest when we bring together the voices of residents, city employees, and community leaders of all backgrounds, valuing the different perspectives and ideas each brings to build a community where everyone can thrive. I envision a city that balances affordability with realistic, effective day-to-day governance, ensuring our city departments can do their jobs well while making the best use of taxpayer time and money. Together, I know we can build a stronger future for Dearborn Heights through our new Charter.
