Proven local leadership! I joined the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission in 2012. In 2022 I decided to run for City Council and have served for four years.
I manage a local government office, which leads to a deep understanding of budgeting, as well as state and federal trends. This all helps with sound fiscal decisions for the City of Dundas.
I have been part of statewide leadership cohorts, conflict management trainings, meeting facilitation workshops, and would use these skills to best serve the City of Dundas.
City government is a long-term commitment to operations, infrastructure, and planning for the future. My family has lived here for 14 years, and we plan to stay for many more as we raise our children in Dundas.
Many tasks require partnering and working together. We’re connected to nearby cities, townships, and state and county infrastructure. I will work on building relationships and working towards solutions. Some examples include 115th St, intersections along Highway 3, and the Mill Towns State Trail (of which I serve as Council representative to the Board). I am not entering this Mayoral race based on a single issue, rather I am committed to working on any issue that may arise.
There are basic requirements such as open meeting law and annual audits, that create transparency, but the job doesn’t stop at basic. I believe in being accessible to our citizens via phone, email, or even a conversation while passing by on the sidewalk. I also believe that good processes, training, resources for staff, clear expectations, repercussions when necessary, and open communication increase accountability and ethical conduct.
There are basic requirements such as public hearings for certain actions. However, we should go beyond basic and look for innovative ways to gather input. The type of project or plan would influence involvement. For example, when planning Tower Park, I held a meeting with the Parks Commission at the park to gather feedback on initial concepts. Surveys have also been used and can be a great starting point. Any public input is best when summarized for all to see.
Providing resources helps ensure our officers have what they need to do their job. I know our officers prioritize connections. For example, they stopped in our neighborhood to reward kids for wearing helmets. I hope to encourage more connections.
Building a community that everyone feels part of inherently makes people want to care for their neighbors. Events like Oktoberfest and Trunk-or-Treat help create community. We have a lot to be proud of in Dundas, and it’s because there are great people
