The first is to make sure that families and individuals do not have to worry about the affordability of healthcare. An emergency should not affect the rest of your life. Insurance companies must step up and pay these charges. Not only are the patients being victimized, so are the providers, as was made clear with Hennepin County Medical Center when they were not paid.
Second, seniors need certainty around charges in assisted living facilities. We must prevent arbitrary rent increases notwithstanding existing contracts.
Third, a focus on our young learners who do better in small classes, especially K-4, so that they can begin to master reading, writing and math, and learn vital social skills, while closing the achievement gap.
A vibrant economy begins with the basics: safe water and clean air. Next, investments in our schools and educational system to provide the foundation for a ready workforce and tomorrow's innovations. Safe communities, with reliable police, fire and EMS responses allow businesses to grow and individuals to thrive. Expanding access to healthcare and childcare, while protecting Minnesota’s workforce, farmers and business from external inflationary pressures may ease some of the stress.
There is no place for racism in Minnesota. We need to make sure all are protected. In recent years it is sad that the President has brought this to our table. Despite the advancements of the civil rights movement, we are moving backward. No one should be complacent. We’re all in this together and we are stronger together. I would support, or submit, any legislation to restore and protect these hard fought steps toward equality.
Yes. We are among the few states yet to take this important step. This should have become part of our bedrock years ago and I do not understand the ongoing resistance to the basic notion every person is equal, with an equal place in our state regardless of sex.
We must work to prevent pollution, and hold individuals and companies responsible for the harms they cause. This is the only environment we have and we must protect it. The implications reach every part of our lives. There is no “do over” once a child’s development has been stunted by toxins, or a parent’s life has been shortened by respiratory disease. We need clean air and water to grow a safe food supply. A clean environment is also our best playground.
I support community-based policing, which means listening to the experts and groups from various segments of society to ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
I also support our school resource officers who create a safe and secure environment for our school kids.
We must also ensure that emergency services can reach people in need across the state, and that medical facilities remain open and accessible.
Big money is ruining our elections at state and federal levels. We need to get rid of Citizens United and end dark money. Quite simply, we should know who is backing candidates and issues that can re-shape our government and our lives.
