1. Economic Success: I believe Minnesotans are struggling under an affordability crisis in our lives and an integrity crisis in our government. We need to build on our shared values across the aisle to help lower health care, day care, grocery, and housing costs for our neighbors and support good jobs, healthy local businesses, and a thriving population.
2. Strong, Safe Schools: Our children are our future. We want our kids to grow and succeed in the 21st century. We need to support our teachers, have funding formulas to match inflation, and ensure our schools are safe for everyone.
3. Healthy Communities: All Minnesotans, from vulnerable children to our seniors, deserve to have universal, affordable health care in their lives.
To create a vibrant statewide economy, I support investments in workers, small businesses, infrastructure, and affordable housing. To tackle inflation, I support reducing costs through expanding access to affordable childcare, eldercare, healthcare, housing, and transportation. I further support innovative new technologies and clean energy projects to help reduce our energy costs. I will also fight for good wages and benefits for Minnesotan workers to remain healthy, productive, and thriving.
We urgently need to address racial and ethnic disparities in our state. A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision made it more difficult to support programs based explicitly on race or ethnicity, however. We must therefore tailor our work to focus on other factors where disparities are most notable within our communities of color, like socioeconomic status. I support financial grants and programs targeted to that work, including support for minority-owned businesses through the DBE program.
Yes. I believe in equality for all Minnesotans regardless of race, ethnicity, disability, sex, or sexual orientation. No Minnesotan should be discriminated against—in the workplace or elsewhere—just for being who they are. The Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment will codify legal protections for all Minnesotans regardless of changes in leadership. I would also support the passage of the Federal Equal Rights Amendment and Minnesota's ratification of the same.
Clean air and water are basic human rights for Minnesotans. I support legislation addressed at removing lead and PFAS from our water supply. I support investments in clean energy and conservation to prevent further pollution of our lakes and streams. I will work with our farmers, organized labor, businesses, and others to protect our existing natural resources (including the boundary waters). Finally, I support measures to hold polluters accountable when they dump toxins into our air and water.
I support expanding mental health and substance-use crisis response programs. I also support violence-prevention programs, early intervention programs, and measures that seek to address the root causes of crime (including chemical use). I believe in evidence-based reform and restorative practice. I further believe we should continue to invest in recruiting and retaining well-trained law enforcement officers. Finally, I support keeping illegal firearms away from those would seek to harm others.
I support adoption of the Montana Plan in Minnesota. Under that plan, corporations would be prohibited from spending money on political candidates and ballot issues—effectively eliminating the Citizens United ruling. I further support campaign donor transparency through requiring PACs to fully disclose the identity of their donors. Finally, I support Minnesota’s Political Contribution Refund system that allows candidates to raise funds from their neighbors and remain competitive.
