House - State Representatives serve in the Minnesota House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the state legislature. They write and vote on legislation to create, repeal, or change state laws affecting many issues, like health care, the environment, and the economy. -Making sure that every MN family that needs it can get good-quality child care that doesn't break the bank
-Making sure that everyone can get a post-high school education that doesn't require taking on mountains of debt
-Making sure that our property tax system allows local governments to do the things they need to do without hitting hardest the folks who can afford it the least
Minnesotans are a good investment - period. While we can't do everything, using our tax dollars to support our people not giveaways to the rich or big corporations is a start. We also need to root out the things that are allowing inflation and expensive lives to happen in the first place and make sure that we're using the power of the law to prevent that, not enable it.
In the immediate, we need to provide some relief to our schools small businesses, particularly those owned by immigrants, that were so harmed during Operation Metro Surge. More broadly, we need to make sure that education at every level - early childhood, K-12, and postsecondary has the policy supports and resources they need to reduce those disparities.
Yes. It's long past time that we put this guarantee into our state constitution.
We need to strengthen our laws banning PFAS and other toxic chemicals. We also need to make sure that the oversight ability we have as a state is adequate to the ever-changing need.
At the top of my list is gun violence prevention. It's a uniquely American problem, but one we know the solutions to: banning semi-automatic military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Personally, I'd also like to see us require safe storage and reporting of lost and stolen firearms.
The counter to the influence of big money is to strengthen the influence of small money. We need to revitalize and modernize our Minnesotan-owned campaign financing. I will have a bill that will amplify and further incentivize use of our Political Contribution Refund program, which in turn with put more candidates under the requirements that go along with it.
