Shore up our statutes to protect our rights to reproductive choice as well as the rights of our LGBTQ+ and immirgrant communities. Recent federal actions have shown us that our rights need to be protected at the state level.
Continue investments in our public education system including maintaining the indexed increase, universal meals, and mental health supports. While we set our schools finances on a more stable path, there is still more to do.
Pass legislation to increase affordable housing, including my bill to shift excess TIF increment to Affordable Housing Trust Funds. Also increase both Local Government and County Program Aid to help lower property taxes as well as increasing the homestead exclusion.
Investing in a well-education workforce, affordable housing, childcare, and quality of life in our communities (transit, parks, etc.) will make our state more attractive to businesses to start and stay here. Continue to invest in programs that DEED and DOLI have in place to help our small businesses thrive. I also believe it is important to start investing in universal pre-K and affordable childcare. Families have a hard time staying in the workforce if they do not have access to childcare.
We have a public education system that still has a success gap between our BIPOC and white students. We need to continue investing in literacy programs (READ ACT), getting teachers of color in the classroom as role-models, our English as a Second Language programs. We can not let threats from the Federal government regrading "DEI" programming to stop our investments in our BIPOC businesses and in our state programs that help close institutional gaps.
Yes, I do support putting the ERA Amendment on the ballot. Especially, the work that has been done to make sure that it is an inclusive ERA that also addresses reproductive rights.
I have supported the recent bonding bill that has provided funding for water treatment centers across the state, our Legacy funding that goes to projects that mitigate pollutants in our water and air, and have supported funds to farmers to reduce the use of pesticides that flow into our surface and ground water. I also appreciate the work that groups like Save the Boundary Waters have done to protect that valuable Minnesota resource.
I supported the Red Flag law and Universal Background Checks and I do support passing a ban on high capacity magazines, binary triggers, and the sale of assault rifles. I worked with my House Education Finance Co-Chair Annonymous Threat Reporting Systems for our schools and communities. I also support continuing funding that helps our local police departments to increase and diversify their workforce.
I support Rep. Greenman's bills to increase transparency around campaign donations and the work that has been done around shoring up our campaign finance oversight. I also would like to see a more robust public funding in our election system so that individual candidates do not have to rely as much on corporate donations.
