1. Local economic growth: Since COVID, the average Minnesotan's income has decreased by 7% while billionaire's wealth has increased by 300%. Locally-owned businesses are being squeezed out and workers’ rights are being violated. I will advocate for policies to protect locally-owned businesses and farms and ensure good conditions for workers across Minnesota.
2. Public School Funding: Our schools needs direct funding to improve infrastructure without increasing our property taxes.
3. Protecting the environment: Conservation and recreation are at the heart of our district, and are also the key to a healthy mind, body, spirit, and economy. We owe it to future generations to protect our air, water, and soil.
The most expensive cost for every family is housing. We can make housing more affordable by reducing red tape for new development and creating state-wide zoning laws which allow for more dense construction. The state can also bring down inflation by investing in our local economies through grant and loan programs which support the local production of food, energy and industrial products. This investment will spur local growth and reduce costs by eliminating tariff and transportation costs.
One of the key causes of racial wealth disparity in Minnesota is the history of denying home mortgages to people of color. As a result of this 20th century federal policy, the average wealth of white families has grown to over $170,000 while the average wealth of black families is only $17,000. I would support additional funding for Minnesota's First Time Homebuyer program which helps all Minnesotans, and especially young Minnesotans and Minnesotans of color, to begin building wealth.
I support sending the ballot issue to the people because they should decide whether or not they approve of the Equal Rights Amendment. We should all agree that equal rights are the bedrock value of America.
I support "Prove it First" mining legislation. As a part of that legislation, I would also increase state investments in Minnesota's mining communities to ensure there aren't economic impacts to the loss of jobs. My dad's uncles were all coal miners in Seattle WA, and the truth is the government doesn't support mining for the sake of miners- they are playing a global game of AI competition. We can build local economies without damaging our ecosystems. In fact, we have to.
I would fund our police to protect our communities from violent crime, drunk drivers, domestic abusers, and drug dealers. I would also invest in cyber security, preventing industrial pollution, caring for mental health patients, prosecuting fraud, and eliminating poverty. Safety can take so many forms, and our strategies should be like a leatherman- we need different tools for different jobs. I will work with professionals keep our communities safe from all kinds of threats.
One source of unlimited cash for candidates running for office in Minnesota is the "independent expenditures." This means that any political action committee (PAC) can spend as much money as they want on a candidate as long as the candidate doesn't coordinate with that PAC. All I can say is: we were not born yesterday. We know that there is plenty of coordination between candidates and PACs. I would cap the amount of money that PACs can spend on candidates' campaigns.
