As an independent, I will answer to the people of District 11. My top three priorities are lowering everyday costs, protecting rural schools, and defending our water and energy resources. I will pursue property-tax relief, affordable childcare and housing, and utility-rate protections because families need breathing room. I will fight for dependable school funding to retain teachers and paraprofessionals and protect classroom programs. I will propose a five-year pause on new large-scale data center approvals while independent studies examine water, power, and costs to residents. I will work across party lines and put your needs first. Before Minnesota builds, Minnesota deserves to know.
I would propose a District 11 pilot offering free childcare from six weeks through age 10, with no income cutoff and state reimbursement to providers. This would help parents work and support local jobs. State government cannot control inflation alone, but it can ease household costs. I would pursue property-tax relief, utility-rate protections, and more affordable housing. I would seek available surplus funding for the pilot, with a clear budget and measurable results.
I became the first Black elected official in Kettle River and Carlton County. Representation matters, and it must lead to results. I would support stronger fair housing enforcement, equitable school funding, culturally responsive healthcare, and fair access to small-business capital. I would require meaningful Tribal consultation and public reporting on outcomes. As an independent, I will judge legislation by whether it removes barriers and improves lives.
Yes. Your rights should not depend on which party holds power. I support putting an Equal Rights Amendment before voters to establish lasting constitutional protections against discrimination. I support protections covering race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability. I would insist on clear, enforceable language. As an independent, my commitment is to equal treatment under the law and the dignity of every Minnesotan.
Clean water is personal to me. I know what it means to live without running water. I will propose a five-year pause on new large-scale data center approvals to study water demand, power needs, and community costs. I support stronger PFAS protections, enforceable air and water pollution limits, and requiring polluters to fund cleanup. Minnesota must protect wild rice, watersheds, and Tribal treaty rights. Corporate promises cannot substitute for independent evidence.
I would advance my proposed Emergency Responder Retirement and Retention Act and Emergency Response Readiness and Responder Health Act. Together, they would strengthen retirement benefits for eligible volunteers, paid-on-call responders, and EMS personnel; fund safer equipment; and provide health screenings and mental health support for paid and volunteer firefighters and EMTs. Rural District 11 deserves dependable emergency services and responders who can afford to keep serving.
I would support a $500 cap per individual or PAC on direct contributions to a state legislative candidate during each two-year election cycle segment, paired with stronger small-donor public financing. I would also push for disclosure of the original sources of political spending and stronger enforcement against illegal coordination. As an independent, I believe your voice should carry more weight than a donor's check. Public office is a public trust.
