Hearing cases in a timely manner is important in the judiciary. In my courtroom, we strive to limit the amount of time people spend in court, to the extent possible. As a former practicing attorney, I understand what it's like waiting for cases to be heard and each day I try to keep this in mind as a judicial officer. I'm cognizant of the fact that people have additional matters to tend to so we work hard to implement processes and systems to better serve our residents in a timely manner.
Enormous strides have been made in the Michigan courts and in the Genesee County courts in an attempt to make them more accessible to the residents in recent years. I'm in support of any changes that make the courts more accessible including, but not limited to, formatting documents to make them easier for people to complete on their own, the opening of resource centers that assist self-represented individuals, ensuring that people have the ability to consult with legal counsel, legal services for the indigent, and public defenders, as well as processing fee waivers for those that qualify to have their filing fees waived.
Specifically, in our county, we have to contend with mental health issues, financial hardship, substance abuse, and violent crime. Most cases seem to comprise of one or several of these concerns. Striking a balance between rehabilitation and accountability is key.
I have been blessed to be able to serve the residents of Flint and Genesee County as a judicial officer for the past six (6) years. This is a role that I take extremely seriously so I endeavor to listen and allow litigants to be heard, process cases in a timely manner, treat everyone that I encounter with the dignity and respect they deserve, and serve with integrity, compassion, and astuteness, while also holding people accountable for their actions. I truly believe in justice for all, and I look forward to continuing to serve my community with excellence as a true servant leader. THANK YOU FLINT FOR ALLOWING ME TO SERVE YOU IN THIS CAPACITY!
