I am a 3rd generation professor now TRS retiree. I understand how to translate skill acquisition into careers. Moreover, I am a former faculty senate president skilled in parliamentarian procedures.
ACC does a great job of skill delivery. I have worked in semiconductor fabs, large distribution centers, and CNC metal cutting shops…I have first hand knowledge of those and other processes. Where I see a need at ACC is in career placement. This should be front and center at any higher education institution and ACC is no different.
IMHO, ACC’s branding could be better. When the North Harris Montgomery Community College changed their name to Lone Star College in 2007 they then experienced a massive, 10-year long ~112% increase (not a typo) in enrollment. They now serve just shy of 100,000 students. A 6% increase from 2025 at ACC is nice but could it be better? I believe so.
TBH, there are only two internal answers to falling revenue at institutions of higher education: Raise tuition or increase average class size. That’s it. There are a plethora of equally abhorrent external answers including raising property taxes. If we want good things, we need to pay for them.
Term limits for trustees. If elected, I will propose resolutions, garner support, and make motions to make it so. I am an experienced parliamentarian and know how to make this happen.
Served on the Board of Trustees for two decades (elected Chair twice); UT Austin doctorate in Community College Leadership;
led successful 2022 Bonds and live, work, and serve on community boards.
To approve a budget and set policies that address the communities workforce needs of today and the future; to hire a Chancellor that can lead our institution and partner with businesses and organizations to help create workforce programs
To continue our free tuition program and to align our systems to make navigating enrollment, financial aide, and transferring easier for our students. To help raise funds for scholarships and advocating for increasing Pell grants and state funding/grants.
Early intervention programs and tutoring also are important tools to help assist our students to completion.
Free tuition is a priority for me and I hope our community. We will need the community's support to raise funds to continue the program. Other places like Dallas have been successful in reaching out to community leaders and organizations to help fund these type of programs. Making sure that we approve a budget that meets the needs of the College while having money to help fund free tution.
Child care and health services are two community issues. We are
addressing the child care issues through a join effort with the County and City. We are working with healthcare providers and
expanding our nursing, dental hygiene, and other healthcare programs to meet the community's needs. Affordability is definitely an issue and we approved a 2% raise and one time allotment for our faculty/staff.
