My 20 years in the USAF provided a solid background in leadership and character, working with experts and asking hard questions to reach the best solutions to issues. Listening / learning is critical
Give priority to fill open positions in police, fire, EMS and 911. Work with departments to resolve public safety issues. Analyze public safety exit surveys to resolve issues causing separation. Continue to address Wildland Fire awareness and preparedness. Address training needs at all levels to provide additional field support for public safety officers in order to create safer public engagement.
Austin residents own the city’s infrastructure. Neglect of the systems impacts us all. Major improvements to the water supply pipes must be addressed. New power sources must be brought on line providing affordable services. Electrical grids must be maintained to prevent outages. CapMetro/rail must provide safe, dependable service city wide. Responsible development of housing should be implemented.
Support current resolution where development must produce a defined, measurable, publicly reported return. Resources needed must be measured against the returns and provide no additional burden on residents. Centers must be self-sufficient or require minimum impact on supplies needed for residents. The use of solar, wind and rain water collection should be mandated in the facilities construction.
As a Commander for Austin-Travis County EMS, ICU nurse, and former President of the EMS Association, I’ve spent my career leading in crises, solving problems, and delivering results for our community.
After 15 years as an Austin first responder, I’ve seen firsthand what works and where our public safety system falls short. I’ll improve EMS, police, and fire response times, strengthen wildfire preparedness, and expand mental health crisis response. We can keep Austin safe while respecting individual rights by sending the right resource to the right call.
Austin is growing faster than our infrastructure can keep up. We need to invest in public safety, transit, roads, and our utility systems before growth leaves residents paying the price through longer commutes, slower emergency response, and higher bills. I’ll push for infrastructure that keeps pace with growth, paired with smarter planning that reduces congestion and sprawl.
Data centers are receiving significant attention right now, and rightly so. And this is an opportunity to establish clear standards for all large industrial energy and water users. I support strong Project Labor Agreements to ensure safe working conditions and fair wages, usage-based fees so those who consume more resources pay their fair share, and safeguards to protect Austin’s water and energy.
