School board members are elected to provide governance and oversight for the local public school district. They establish policies, adopt the district's budget, hire and evaluate the superintendent, and make decisions that support student achievement, fiscal responsibility, and compliance with state and federal laws. They serve four-year terms.

I taught high school math for 40 years and was active in the teacher's association. I've lived in Edinburgh for 43 years and been active in many organizations - church, Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity, and more. I have five years experience on the school board.
What is best for students is my main focus. Granted, there are situations where what's best for most may not be what's best for some. I think reasonable people will try to find a solution that works for everyone. That answer fits more than just the area of curriculum.
Many students do not know what they want to do with their lives after school. They need a broad foundation of basics that can be the foundation for anything they may choose and opportunities to explore options they are considering.
Property taxes have traditionally been the main source of revenue for schools. Voters chose to put caps on those several years ago, assuming the state legislature would provide alternate funding to make up for the shortfall. They haven't, even though state support provides an opportunity to level the funding between communities with varied economic circumstances. Private school vouchers and charter schools operating for profit have drained public school funding to the point that almost all schools are needing to pass a referendum just to pay the basic costs of operation. THE STATE CREATED THIS PROBLEM AND THEY NEED TO FIX IT!
Funding is our current biggest challenge. I can't express how disappointed I was when the new housing development north of town didn't materialize. I realize there was a significant cost to putting the infrastructure in for water and sewer. There will be an even greater cost if we don't expand our tax base and increase our student enrollment. Perhaps the town leaders will come to realize that and in four years will be taking steps to help everyone in Edinburgh by keeping our local school competitive and financially secure.
