•Retired Educator (34 year Career) •Parks & Trees Commissioner (10 Years) •Plainwell Resident (17 Years) •Advocate for: -Transparency in Government= Informed Public -Responsible Development of the Mill Property -Maintaining Plainwell’s Natural Beauty -Responsible Care for the River & Race -Fair Business Practices
I am a retired public school teacher (34 year career). I worked with adjudicated adolescents as well as elementary special needs students.
I've served on the Plainwell Parks & Trees Commission for the last 10+ years. During my time with Plainwell P&T, I helped make recommendations for the installation of the Dog Park, the Pollinator Garden, and several improvement projects for Parks around the City.
Rachel and I have lived in Plainwell's Walnut Woods Ct. neighborhood since 2009.
The balance and practical locations of residential, commercial, and industrial zoning.
Green Space for recreation and natural beauty.
Environmentally responsible development in and around the Kalamazoo River and Mill Race, both of which run directly through the City of Plainwell.
Transparency with regard to (community consensus vs unilateral) decision making.
Unilateral decision making is the antithesis of government of, by, and for the people. Government is not a business and should never be run as such.
Building community involvement requires every effort to provide communication to our citizens. I plan to routinely reach out to Plainwell citizens via social media, user-friendly access to the City Government Website, door to door canvassing, mailings, periodic surveys, etc. in order to accomplish this.
It is important to make citizens aware that they have a voice, and it is to the benefit of all of us to encourage that voice to be heard.
