occupation
Village President, Village of Elberta
I have served as Village President of Elberta for eight years, gaining hands-on experience in municipal government, budgeting, infrastructure, public services, parks, grants, personnel, and community development. Because of staffing changes over the years, I have also learned and assisted with many of the day-to-day responsibilities of the Clerk, Treasurer, and Department of Public Works, giving me a practical understanding of how local government functions beyond the council table.
I am also the owner and operator of Jen’s Painting and Cleaning Services, bringing small-business experience in budgeting, scheduling, customer service, problem-solving, and accountability. My formal education includes an Associate Degree in Commercial Art and Illustration and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. I have continued my professional development through Michigan Municipal League, MIC, EGLE, State Treasury, and leadership cohort trainings.
I am running because I believe effective local government depends on responsible stewardship, communication, teamwork, and a willingness to listen and do the work. I bring my experience and practical perspective to the office while helping build strong, sustainable communities.
1. Responsible stewardship of public resources.
Local government must carefully manage taxpayer dollars while maintaining essential services and infrastructure. I support sound budgeting, long-term financial planning, responsible grant management, regular review of expenditures, and transparent communication about how public funds are being used.
2. Strong, accountable local government.
Effective government requires clearly defined responsibilities, reliable staffing, good communication, and respect for established processes. I work to strengthen administrative systems, encourage professional development, improve continuity when staffing changes occur, and support clear lines of responsibility between elected officials, appointed officials, and employees.
3. Community investment and quality of life.
Communities need to plan for both today’s needs and future generations. I support thoughtful investment in infrastructure, parks and public spaces, environmental stewardship, and appropriate economic and community development. I would continue to seek partnerships and outside funding when practical, while ensuring projects are financially responsible and consistent with the community’s long-term plans.
