Clark County District Court Judge Eighth Judicial District Department 30

District Court Judges preside over major civil and criminal cases, including felony prosecutions, large civil disputes, family law matters, and constitutional challenges. These judges interpret and apply Nevada law, make decisions about sentencing, rule on the admissibility of evidence, and ensure that court proceedings follow due process. Because District Court judges shape how laws are enforced and how individual rights are protected, their decisions directly affect public safety, civil liberties, and access to justice. Although judicial races often receive less attention than other offices, these positions play a critical role in upholding the rule of law, ensuring fairness in the legal system, and maintaining public confidence in an independent judiciary.Note: This is a nonpartisan race. The designation only applies to the race, and does not reflect the political affiliations of the candidates.

My life experience and work in public service is what makes me the most qualified for the Department 30 seat. I grew up in a low-income housing area and around unhoused populations until I was 9. This gave me perspective and familiarity, influencing my community activism and service as a youth. As a lawyer, this led me to become a public attorney for the State.

In my 15 years of practice, I have handled civil, criminal, and administrative law matters. I did my first trial two weeks after passing the bar. I am at the right point in my career and with the right breadth of experience to serve in this role. Most importantly, I have the people skills and compassion to treat those of all backgrounds in my courtroom with respect and dignity.
First, I look at the plain language of the statute. Second, I look at the intent and purpose, including case law and legislative notes providing further clarity. Finally, I apply common sense. There is a long-standing legal holding in Nevada that no decision should lead to absurd results. Sometimes, lawyers and even judges twist themselves into legal knots when looking at a statute or case, creating unintentional catch-22’s or bizarre results that should be avoided by using common sense.
On my website, I list my three focuses as preparedness, fairness, and respect. Preparedness comes from my work ethic, and my diligent attention to detail, research, and understanding the facts and arguments in each case. Fairness comes from my commitment to following the law and using discretion where permitted. Respect is from my background, my work experience in public service, and my interpersonal skills with people from all walks of life.
