Clark County District Court Judge Eighth Judicial District Department 21

District Court Judges preside over major civil and criminal cases, including felony prosecutions, large civil disputes, family law matters, and constitutional challenges. These judges interpret and apply Nevada law, make decisions about sentencing, rule on the admissibility of evidence, and ensure that court proceedings follow due process. Because District Court judges shape how laws are enforced and how individual rights are protected, their decisions directly affect public safety, civil liberties, and access to justice. Although judicial races often receive less attention than other offices, these positions play a critical role in upholding the rule of law, ensuring fairness in the legal system, and maintaining public confidence in an independent judiciary.Note: This is a nonpartisan race. The designation only applies to the race, and does not reflect the political affiliations of the candidates.

My greatest qualification is the breadth and depth of my courtroom experience. For nearly two decades, I have served as a Clark County Deputy Public Defender, handling serious and complex cases and working with people from every walk of life. That experience has taught me how consequential courtroom decisions can be and the importance of listening carefully, exercising sound judgment, and treating every person with dignity and respect.

My experience extends beyond criminal law. Before joining the Public Defender’s Office, I practiced civil litigation on both sides of the courtroom, representing plaintiffs in subrogation matters and working as a defense attorney on one of Nevada’s largest construction defect cases. That background has given
I believe a judge’s responsibility is to apply the law fairly, consistently, and impartially—not to reach a predetermined result. I would begin with the language of the applicable statutes, constitutional provisions, and controlling precedent, carefully considering the facts and arguments presented by all sides.

My years in the courtroom have taught me the importance of listening before deciding. Every case involves real people and unique circumstances, but decisions must ultimately be grounded in the law and supported by sound legal reasoning. A judge should approach each matter with an open mind, respect the role of every participant, and never allow personal preferences or outside pressures to determine the outcome.

I also believe good
Fairness begins with treating every person who enters the courtroom with dignity and respect, regardless of their background, financial circumstances, profession, or position in the community. Every party should have a meaningful opportunity to be heard and leave the courtroom knowing that the judge listened carefully, understood the issues, and based the decision on the facts and the law.

My career has allowed me to see the justice system from different perspectives. I have represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation and, for nearly two decades, have represented individuals as a Clark County Deputy Public Defender. Those experiences have reinforced the importance of approaching every case without assumptions or predetermined

I bring a distinct 360-degree perspective to the bench rooted in over 20 years of legal and public service. Before taking the bench, I served eight years as a sworn police officer and investigator. I then spent decades as a civil trial attorney, mediator for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and District Court, and pro bono advocate before serving as a District Court Judge. For the past four years, I have served as the Presiding Judge of the Civil Division for the Eighth Judicial District Court, managing complex calendars, spearheaded the creation of the Medical Malpractice Court, and maintaining an exceptionally low error rate on appellate review.
My approach is rooted in a strict adherence to the rule of law, legal accuracy, and consistency. I base every decision strictly on the law and the facts presented, remaining neutral, independent, and impartial regardless of the parties involved. Having handled both civil and criminal calendars, I rely on clear, evidence-based procedures to ensure stability, predictability, and correct legal analysis. My focus is on applying the law faithfully as written while ensuring the process remains equitable and transparent for all litigants.
I ensure fairness and impartiality by treating every individual—whether an attorney, victim, defendant, or civil litigant—with dignity and equal respect. My experience in law enforcement taught me to view justice at a human level, ensuring everyone is heard fairly. I maintain public confidence through administrative efficiency, backlog reduction, and transparency, including opening my courtroom to both in-person and online observation. Furthermore, I strictly adhere to judicial ethics and recusal standards to uphold the integrity and independence of the court.
