Wisconsin has clear laws on how we can summon jurors, but those rules don’t always make building representation easy. As Clerk of Court, I have continued our practices of extra outreach, multi-format communication, and benchmarking, to try to reach and include all summoned jurors.
Additionally, missing an hourly wage during jury services is often a hardship. For a long time, Dane County has had the second worst daily rate for jurors. This is why in my 2027 budget, I’m adding a 50% increase in juror payments, so we can provide jurors a better wage for their service.
Continuing Fiscal Responsibility – Since I took office I have built a savings to county taxpayers of nearly $1,500,000/year by increasing revenue and lowering costs, all without reducing our staff or services.
Court Modernization – By the end of the term I will complete the largest technology update in the last 15 years, making remote access easier and reducing transportation burdens.
Increasing Access to the Court – Through language support, technology, better guides, and innovative tools, my priority is to make complicated court processes easier to access and understand.
Although I first started at the courts a few years ago, I have a strong background in leadership that stood out to our judges who appointed me to fill the term as Clerk of Court. I hold a master’s degree in business administration and spent 20 years in non-profit and public service.
In the last three years I have learned a lot, and also brought a financial background that helped make our court more efficient and save our county millions of dollars. My experience in legislative advocacy is also a big asset for a Clerk of Court in our state’s capitol and in increasing support for our court.
It is a busy and important general election season. Clerk of Court is an uncontested race. What should voters consider when casting their vote for this office?
While there are many important races that will determine the direction of our state and national leadership, this past year has highlighted how important our courts are as a pillar of our government and a check against unconstitutional and unlawful actions. Contested or not, I hold this election and my role in our third branch of government with the utmost respect and sincerity, and I hope our voters see that and feel that as well.
