Cedar Hill Fire Protection District Proposition Fire
Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $11,600,000 for the purposes of acquiring, constructing, extending, renovating, improving, replacing, furnishing and equipping fire stations and related facilities; acquiring and equipping life-saving and firefighting vehicles; and acquiring emergency rescue, fire protection and firefighting apparatus and auxiliary equipment to carry out the objectives and purposes of the District, improve emergency services and reduce response times?Summary: The measure would allow the district to borrow $11.6 million to replace aging equipment and upgrade its facilities, including a bunk space for firefighters and a training center, and to perform other repairs. The bond issue would spur a property tax increase of 29 cents per $100 assessed valuation. If passed, the owner of a $200,000 home would pay an additional $110 a year. The district, long operated with partly volunteer personnel, has three firehouses. It currently transfers $275,000 a year from its operating fund to save for new equipment. Proponents say it is necessary to replace aging trucks, tankers, pumpers and other life-saving equipment. They also say additional firefighters could be hired if operating funds were not transferred to pay for equipment and facility improvements. Opponents are against increased taxes.
