Hazelwood School District Proposition H
Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the Board of Education of the Hazelwood School District, St. Louis County, Missouri be authorized to increase the operating tax levy of the District by $0.30 per $100 of assessed valuation for the purpose of paying general operating expenses? If this proposition is approved, the total levy of the District is expected to remain unchanged due to an expected decrease in the debt service levy of the District that will offset the $0.30 increase to the operating levy of the District, resulting in the adjusted operating levy of the District per $100 of assessed valuation to be estimated at $3.8904 for residential real property, $4.8229 for commercial real property, $4.7459 for agricultural real property and $5.7050 for personal property.Summary: The measure would allow the district to increase its property tax rate for operations by 30 cents per $100 assessed valuation and to decrease its property tax rate for debt service by the same amount. Taxes would not increase. The transfer would allow the district to continue funding teaching, transportation, student and extracurricular programs without increasing taxes. Proponents say the transfer is needed because the district could lose $30 million over the next five years due to lower state funding and the senior property tax freeze enacted in recent years.
