St. John Proposition S
Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the City of St. John, St. Louis County, Missouri, be authorized to increase the City's operating tax levy for general municipal purposes, including police, public safety, and public works, to $1.00 per $100 of assessed valuation? If this proposition is approved, the adjusted operating levy of the City for general municipal purposes is estimated to increase by $0.7690 for residential property, $0.5950 for commercial property, and $0.5500 for personal property, each per $100 of assessed valuation.Summary: The measure would allow the city to raise its operating tax ceiling to $1 per $100 assessed valuation. If passed, the tax ceiling for residential property would rise by $0.769, commercial property by $0.595 and personal property by $0.550. City officials say, however, that the city has no plans to implement tax increases at this time. Proponents say this action is necessary to enable the city to increase taxes if needed in the future because the cost of providing police protection and other essential services continues to rise.
