Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the Village of Hillsdale impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action?Summary: The proposition would allow the village to establish a tax on out-of-state purchases equal to the village sales tax rate. If passed, the tax would generate an estimated $60,000 to $120,000 a year to help pay for general city services or infrastructure. Supporters of the measure say imposing the use tax would put local businesses on a more level playing field with out-of-state firms.
