Hazelwood Proposition 1
Four-sevenths majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the City of Hazelwood, Missouri, issue its general obligation bonds in an amount up to $14,000,000 for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, reconstructing, replacing, installing and equipping the City's fire stations including related facilities and infrastructure, and acquiring any land necessary therefor?Summary: The measure would allow the city to borrow $14 million to replace Firehouse #1 on North Lindbergh Boulevard. The bond issue would trigger a property tax increase of 16.1 cents per $100 assessed valuation. If passed, the owner of a $160,000 home would pay an additional $49 a year. The new larger fire station would accommodate contemporary larger fire trucks and emergency response equipment, and sleeping, restroom and shower facilities for female personnel. According to city engineers, the current facility has serious structural and maintenance issues that would be very costly to repair. Proponents say the new facility is needed to provide quality emergency services and accommodations for all personnel. Opponents say the proposal is being rushed and point out that details, including the location for the new facility, remain undetermined.
