Missouri Constitutional Amendment 2

Simple majority required.Ballot wording: Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to:require all charter counties, including Jackson County, to provide for the election of a county assessor; andrequire assessors in all charter counties to comply with any training requirements established by general law.State and local governmental entities estimate no costs or savings.Summary: The measure would require Jackson County, the main county in the Kansas City metro area, to elect its county assessor as all other Missouri charter counties are required to do. It would also require that county assessors in charter counties complete any training requirements set by law. Last year, Jackson County voters approved electing their assessor. Proponents say the Jackson County vote on this issue should be respected and the selection of county assessor should be consistent across the state. They also say voters should have a say in who determines their property valuations. Opponents say elections will politicize the office and lower professional standards.
