ConstableA constable is an officer of the county justice courts. Constables and their deputies are the executive enforcement branch of the county justice courts. Duties include executing and returning writs of possession or restitution (evictions), serving orders of protection or orders prohibiting harassment, serving civil and criminal summons and subpoenas, and seizing property to satisfy judgments. 4-year term. Why you should care:In addition to their enforcement responsibilities, constables perform much of the community outreach required by the court, such as summoning jurors. The constable will have significant face-to-face interactions with their community. A constable is extremely important not only for ensuring safety in the courtroom but also for ensuring effective communication between the courts and communities. For additional information:https://www.azcleanelections.gov/how-government-works/arizona-county-constable

I want to continue completing fast and effective service and execution of court orders assigned to my office. I also want to continue applying for grant funds through our Constable Ethics Standards and Training Board to receive needed safety equipment for all Constables in Navajo County. As and elected board member, I want to take the needs of our rural counties to our board to ensure we have training and opportunities that apply to the smaller rural counties, and not just focus on the larger county needs in our state.
I am the elected Constable of the Snowflake Justice Precinct 3. I was appointed to replace Constable Sam Grimes in 2021 and was elected in 2022. I am the Navajo County Presiding Constable and was selected for this opportunity in 2023. I have attended training classes offered by the Arizona Constables Association on a yearly basis, and usually attend twice a year. I completed a 20 year career with the Navajo County Probation Department, retiring in 2021, just 3 weeks before being appointed as the Constable. During my time with Probation, I became a certified Firearms Instructor, officer safety instructor, and a search coordinator. I supervised and worked in every community in Navajo County and supervised specialized caseloads of Domestic Violence Court, Drug Court, and Intensive Probation. I have 26 years of knowledge and experience in the court system. I have a great working relationship with law enforcement in my area as well.
Daily challenges facing constables include an increasing caseload in all areas of service and execution of orders. Prioritizing items to be served is necessary to ensure priority documents such as protective orders and evictions are served timely. Knowledge of the court system and being able to provide information to both plaintiffs and defendants is important as well. Officer safety is always a challenge. Through grant funds, we have been able to purchase much needed safety gear in order to do our jobs as safe as possible. As the Presiding Constable, I intend to apply for more grants to replace expired equipment and keep everything up to date for all of the Constables in Navajo County. Training sessions in officer safety is also necessary to ensure we are learning and practicing ways to keep ourselves as safe as possible. Ensuring training sessions are available and applicable to our duties is my priority as a board member of the Arizona Constables Association.
