My name is Gwenevere Josephine Kirkland and I am a Democratic Socialist, grocery worker and labor organizer. I am a transgender woman from Missouri and a refugee in my own country. After graduating from Oklahoma Christian University, I started my transition and moved to Washington for healthcare. I started professionally organizing and door-knocking as soon as possible so I could run for Josh Hawley’s senate seat in my home district. After 2024, I realized that for candidates like me to win in red states, they’d need nationally recognized voices to organize and help recruit working class candidates. That means we must defy Democratic Party leadership and donors by taking over the party in order to fight for democracy. Let’s fight together!
Universal healthcare, publicly-owned utilities and grocery stores, medical/student loan debt amnesty programs, and massive infrastructure/housing development projects. I’ve built a Holistic Economic Affordability Project (HEAP) to break the massive down into the manageable. These policies will be funded by a federal progressive tax on the ultra-wealthy, breaking up big tech/MIC surveillance contractors and reallocating military funds saved by pulling back occupying forces overseas. The only way to win these policies in our current government is to foster a people-powered politics. That’s why I’m running for congress as a democratic socialist to recruit working people like me and you to kick do-nothing Democrats, Christo-fascist Republicans and genocidal, Zionist politicians out of office.
Democracy is earned. Congress has done itself no favors in service of its credibility where democracy is concerned. We must address citizens united and get money out of politics by impeaching the Supreme Court justices guilty of corruption and amending the constitution—both require a massive shift in the balance of power. This is not optional, our future as a people is at stake if we don’t reign in the Epstein class and take responsibility for our own government together. As always, the solution is more working people in power to pass pro-democracy reforms like publicly funded campaigns, mandatory voting, declaring Election Day a holiday, federalizing ranked choice voting and the elimination of foreign lobbying by Israel and other interests buying their way into our corrupted system.
We need to pass a moratorium on AI, data centers and crypto mines to safeguard our working class families from the techno-fascist billionaires and their militarized surveillance, noise pollution, inflated cost of utilities and water consumption, adverse public health costs and the sheer waste of money that is being doled out to private investors and the Epstein class. If we want a return on investment, the public sector performs best—that’s why all these companies use technology paid for by public funds and researched in public institutions. We need a stronger grid and more sources of energy than coal or oil that can be siphoned off by corporations for artificial scarcity. The way we meet growing energy needs is to invest in new solutions regardless of what any billionaire gets out of it.
Making immigration a codified human right would eliminate the incentive to bring in cheap labor without dimming human rights to travel and autonomy. If slave wages exist anywhere up or down the chain from you as a worker, then you are being devalued and your labor is being displaced. Whether your job is taken by AI or overseas, the result is the same—your corporate oligarchs keep more of the money you produce, and you make less until your boss decides you’re replaceable enough to fire. Borders are lines on a piece of paper—color coded for your convenience. They demarcate one state from another so we can decide on what goods and services may leave or enter: goods in the form of trade and money changing hands, services in the form of working people and the hands that produce those goods.
We face a housing crisis in WA-7 thanks to the gentrification of Seattle pushing working class families out of their communities and replaced by Amazon and Microsoft tech employees who are then displaced by AI. These corporations rely on brain drain from less wealthy labor markets and college-educated tech workers looking for a better salary to pay down student debt and for a better future for their families. This predatory dynamic results in homelessness, poverty and crime—real issues these corporate oligarchs don’t have to deal with and certainly won’t pay for. In order to fix our housing market we must make it impossible to commodify affordable housing by separating private investment for a mere few to profit from the public good we all need in order to share a safe and humane society.

We should protect voter access while bolstering security measures—such as robust signature verification and ensuring voter registration rolls are clean and updated—so every legal voter knows their voice is counted fairly.
Keep Elections Local and Non-Partisan: Constitutionally, states are meant to manage their own elections. Congress should support state-level efforts with funding for secure technology and cybersecurity, rather than trying to push a federal "one-size-fits-all" takeover of local voting laws.
My plan to secure Seattle's future focuses on three pillars:
Adopt Next-Gen Clean Energy: Seattle faces a looming energy shortage. The solution isn't rationing power—it is bringing advanced technology like Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to the Puget Sound. These compact plants provide 100% carbon-free, continuous baseload power on a footprint the size of a single city block.
Protect Your Wallet: By utilizing factory-manufactured SMR modules, we can avoid the massive cost overruns of traditional nuclear projects and lower the cost of local electricity production.
Reject Outdated Leadership: Representative Pramila Jayapal has consistently voted against clean energy innovation bills in favor of restrictive regulations. This lack of practical leadership has left Washington's grid vulnerable
