I would support a cost of living agenda that starts with the basics: more housing supply, stronger tenant protections, full IDEA funding, lower prescription drug costs, a public option path toward universal coverage, and a higher federal minimum wage tied to real living costs. Congress should also protect SNAP and Medicaid, expand childcare and transit support, and stop giving tax advantages to large corporations while working families fall behind. In WA-10, affordability is not one problem. It is rent, healthcare, food, wages, and transportation hitting families at the same time.
Congress must defend democracy by protecting the right to vote, enforcing the peaceful transfer of power, and making government more accountable. I oppose the SAVE Act and similar voter suppression measures. I support automatic and same day voter registration, strong vote by mail protections, language access, election security funding, and real consequences for intimidation or abuse of office. Public confidence in elections comes from transparent rules, fair access, and leaders who tell the truth about results instead of using fear and misinformation to weaken trust.
Congress should reject the false narrative that you must choose between economic growth and environmental protection. WA-10 needs both. I support clean energy, modern infrastructure, strong labor standards, and manufacturing and construction jobs that lower costs without sacrificing health, water, or public safety. Federal policy should speed up housing and transit, invest in grid resilience, and clean up contamination, including PFAS and other legacy harms affecting military and working communities. Growth should be measured by whether families are healthier, safer, and more secure, not just by quarterly profits.
Congress should secure the border and enforce the law, but it must do so with due process, humanity, and an understanding of workforce reality. I support focusing enforcement on trafficking, violent crime, and real public safety threats, not fear based sweeps in schools, hospitals, churches, or workplaces. We need more immigration judges, faster asylum processing, legal pathways for workers and families, and strong oversight of detention and ICE practices. Chaos at the border and exploitation in the labor market both get worse when Congress refuses to build a lawful, workable system.
The biggest issue in WA-10 is affordability across daily life, especially housing, healthcare, wages, and the local return on federal decisions. Families are working hard and still getting squeezed. Congress should connect federal dollars and federal law to visible results people can actually feel: lower health costs, more housing, better school and infrastructure funding, stronger worker protections, and better support for veterans and military families. My focus is simple: use federal power with more foresight and accountability so working people in Pierce and Thurston counties are not left carrying the cost of bad policy.

WA CD 10 is home to one of the largest US military bases, Joint-Base Lewis McChord. It is a logistical hub, which flies weapons everywhere, from the Philippines to Israel. I think ending the war in Iran and the genocide in Palestine, and using the billions of dollars spent every day on housing, healthcare and fighting the affordability crisis is the most important issue of our time.

Marilyn Strickland has proudly represented Washington State’s 10th Congressional District since 2021. Born in Seoul and raised in Tacoma, she is the first African-American and Korean-American woman elected to Congress. She is a Chief Deputy Whip in the House Democratic Caucus, and Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus. I support reinstating child tax credits and making them permanent, making healthcare more accessible and affordable, and using Congress’s power to rein in an executive branch whose illegal tariffs and war of choice in Iran are driving up everyday costs.
Congress must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Congress should not provide additional funding to ICE as long as the president may use them to intimidate voters. Congress must also use its powers to hold this administration accountable for its corruption.
Congress has done this before. I voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the America COMPETES Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act. All of these bills were job generators and took care to balance our country’s energy needs while addressing environmental concerns and growing the economy.
Democrats have proposed bills that would have protected our borders, provided a path to legal citizenship for immigrants, and addressed workforce needs. I supported the US Citizenship Act of 2021, which could not get passed in the Senate. I would have voted for the Border Act of 2024, which had bipartisan support but was prevented from advancing by the current president.
CD-10 is a microcosm of the United States: it’s urban, suburban, and rural. It’s economically, racially, and geographically diverse. All over the district, I hear: people want housing they can afford, good jobs, healthcare that won’t bankrupt them, good schools, safe neighborhoods, and the ability to retire with dignity. The federal government should be focused on helping people get ahead and to live in peace.
