Suzan DelBene has represented Washington’s First Congressional District since 2012, bringing a lifetime of business experience and community service to Washington. In Congress, Suzan has worked to build an economy that works for everyone, lower costs, and defend the rights and freedoms guaranteed to all of us. On the Ways and Means Committee, she’s been a national leader — driving efforts to make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent, which helped cut child poverty in half, and pushing for solutions to build more affordable housing. She’s fought to make college and health care more affordable, protect farmers, create a fairer tax code that drives job growth, and expand opportunity for every family.
I champion the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA), which would increase affordable housing production by strengthening the Housing Credit. Provisions from my bill were enacted in 2025 and expected to build more than 1.2 million affordable homes. In their Big Ugly Bill, Republicans’ cut over $1 trillion from Medicaid, including at least $3 billion from Apple Health, and $200 billion from SNAP to pay for tax cuts for billionaires, making health care and food unaffordable for millions. Republicans also let the ACA enhanced APTCs expire, causing premiums for Washingtonians enrolled in health plans through WA Healthplanfinder to increase by an average of 65 percent. We need to repeal Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid and SNAP and permanently restore the enhanced APTCs.
As American citizens, one of our most important freedoms is the right to vote. The integrity of our government and election systems is crucial to the functioning of our democracy. It is vital that we prioritize reforms that expand voting rights, increase election transparency, and enforce stricter ethical standards for government officials. For example, passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will restore critical protections and safeguards for voters. Additionally, I consistently vote against bills that disenfranchise voters, including the SAVE Act and the SAVE America Act because they undermine eligible voters’ constitutional right to vote and infringe upon voters’ sensitive data. We must also protect mail-in voting because it is safe, secure, and legal.
Washington is a leader in the green economy. Our innovative industries and talented workforce lead the nation in developing the next generation of clean energy technologies. It’s urgent that we transform our economy into one based on renewable energy, and I will continue to fight back against any efforts by the Trump administration to undo our progress toward a cleaner, healthier future. Doubling down on clean energy investments is the key to growing our economy and protecting our environment. I lead many pieces of legislation to support investments in renewable energy and the transition to a green economy. I use my position on the Tax Subcommittee to push for reinstating federal support for clean technologies that will decarbonize our industries and provide jobs in our communities.
We must fix our immigration system, so it is humane, and works for families and our economy. We need to work together to pass common sense immigration reform to secure our borders, protect our workers, unite families, create a fair path to legal citizenship, and uphold peoples' Constitutional rights. I've voted against funding ICE without reforms because they've become a danger to our country and communities. We need legal guardrails to prevent ICE from committing violence and terrorizing our communities. I'm a cosponsor of the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, to codify protections for immigrants in sensitive locations, and the No Secret Police Act, to require officers and DHS agents to present identification and keep their faces visible when engaged in immigration enforcement.
Affordability - the cost of groceries, energy, health care, child care, housing, and other essentials have skyrocketed because of Trump’s economic policies, tariffs, and war in Iran. Democrats are focused on addressing these skyrocketing costs by making health care more affordable by restoring the ACA tax credits and repealing Republican’s Medicaid cuts. We also need to repeal the president’s chaotic tariffs and ensure that trade policy is targeted and strategic moving forward. We need to pass policies that help address the rising costs of raising a family like the expanded Child Tax Credit and the enhanced child and dependent care tax credit.

James Etzkorn is a father, husband, engineer and Monroe School Board member running as an Independent to bring focus and efficiency to government. Having worked at big and small tech companies with over 50 patents, he specializes in solving hard problems. James is frustrated with the ineffectiveness of the two-party system that prioritizes protecting their own and getting reelected over serving the people. Tired of polarization, he designed a platform focused on where the majority of Americans align. He wants to fix misaligned incentives to improve people’s lives and restore faith in the future. He rejects divisive wedge issues, firmly believing that it doesn’t matter how we got here. All that matters is what we are going to do about it.
Cost of living has outpaced wages for decades and neither party is doing anything about it. We need to attack high prices by addressing scarcity. This means setting incentives to make it easier to build housing, removing federal residency cap on new doctors, repealing Certificate of Need laws that limit care facilities and enforcing healthcare price transparency.
Attacking high prices is only half the battle. We also need real wage growth. The establishment traded our manufacturing for a service economy. We must return to a nation that builds, because building creates careers, not gigs. By investing in infrastructure, workforce training and advanced manufacturing, we increase the demand for workers. When companies compete for our labor, our wages go up like we saw in 2021.
Congress is failing its constitutional duty. The two-party system broke checks and balances because career politicians care more about reelection than doing their job. To avoid a record opponents can attack, they refuse to write specific laws.
This cowardice destroys public confidence, leaving crucial issues like protecting democratic institutions and voting rights decided by endless litigation and overreaching executive orders. We do not have to choose between security and democracy. We can have both, but Congress must pass clear, unambiguous laws expanding convenient systems like vote-by-mail while enforcing election integrity.
We cannot rely on the establishment to fix the system they broke. We need Independents who will actually do the hard work and restore the People’s House.
We need representatives who make data-driven decisions for the long term, not the next election. Growth is essential to raising real wages, restoring upward mobility and saving our future. However, this cannot come at the expense of our forests and waterways. We must measure results to ensure policies benefit both the environment and the economy.
Investing in infrastructure and energy is essential to American workers. Expanding clean energy enables advanced manufacturing and fuels innovation, creating jobs. This isn't about enriching the few. It’s about rebuilding the working class.
I am not calling for unregulated markets. Government must set the rules of the road and align incentives to outcomes that benefit the people. We must stop managing decline and start engineering growth.
We can have a secure border and a humane process, but it requires immigration reform. We must be unyielding against criminals who threaten our safety, but we can treat peaceful and hardworking families with decency. We must provide a legal path for law-abiding people who have been here for years, contingent on a rigorous background check.
Additionally, we are educating the world's best and brightest only to force them to return home to compete against us. We must make it easier for high-performing foreign graduates to obtain legal status. We must ensure the next generation of technology is built here, not abroad.
Border security does not require cruelty. By maintaining security, we protect the rule of law. By treating people with dignity, we protect our national soul.
The affordability crisis is our most urgent issue. Our district is an economic powerhouse, but the working class is being priced out of their own communities. The cost of living has skyrocketed while real wages stagnate. People have lost faith that the future will be better.
Career politicians prioritize protecting their own and getting reelected over solving systemic problems. Our government is focused more on stopping bad things from happening instead of making good things a reality.
It is human nature to respond to incentives. Congress must align incentives to outcomes that benefit working families. We need independent-minded representatives who use data to make the best long-term decisions for the American people, not the next election cycle.

My name is Catherine and I am running to represent Washingtonians in the first district in Congress. I believe that every person has the right to clean air, to safe drinking water, a place to live, education, and quality healthcare. Right now, our government is not doing all that it can to safeguard those rights. It's time to replace everyone in this government. And that’s why I’m running. I believe that current politicians are too focused on continuing their political career rather than on making effective changes that help Americans. I want to change that and work for my constituents, introducing term limits and getting money out of politics.
I support enacting universal healthcare, eliminating the need to have certain types of employment for access to healthcare, removing high premiums for minimal, or even no, coverage. I believe in increasing SNAP benefits to more people, and removing as many barriers as possible, such as an ever-changing list of "acceptable" foods. We need to stop policing what people are doing with their resources and simply provide the resources as we are able. I personally believe in and support universal basic income, to help all folks, but especially disabled Americans, stay out of poverty. I believe in increasing the federal minimum wage so that those who can work earn enough money to meet their basic needs without taking on second and third jobs. I support paid paid parental leave.
The strength in our elections is that they are locally run. That said, I believe that we need to make it easier for voters to vote, such as making Election Day a federal holiday, and implementing ranked choice voting in all federal elections. We also should make an amendment to the constitution to allow constituents to recall their congressperson.
I think that environmental protection comes first before economic growth. By increasing public lands, bolstering the authority of the EPA and writing stronger laws to protect the environment, we can manage and support increasing energy needs. Rebuilding/repairing the national electrical grid, especially at its weakest points across the continental divide, will create jobs and ensure that parts of the US that need support as they transition to cleaner energy and away from coal can meet their needs. Economic growth will flow from investing into our own infrastructure. We will create thousands of jobs in new sectors focused on sustainability and environmental protection.
I think the rhetoric around border security is intended to cause fear and confusion. The issues we are having with immigration stem from the convoluted and needlessly difficult process we have established. We need to make is easier to come to the US, to work here, and to become a citizen. Especially with birth rates declining for years, nearly decades, we need people to come to this country to keep our workforce stable. Immigrants are not the problem; they pay taxes, contribute to the economy, and participate in society. Immigrants are the culture of the United States, and we are all immigrants on this land.
My congressional district is experiencing rapid growth as people are moving away from the city and into suburban and even rural areas. And my district faces transportation problems, specifically along highway 2 as it moves east and eventually over Stevens Pass. As we are facing urbanization, we need responsible city planning and public transit. Sound Transit needs federal assistance in finishing its Link light rail project on time, and to expand further north and eventually join into a national high speed rail project, linking urban centers throughout the nation. We need national high speed rail as a viable option for Americans, and we need that connected with robust regional transit centers. This has the benefit of being environmentally more sustainable, which is our 2nd biggest issue.

I am a mother, an audiologist, and defender of the Constitution. My path to public service began as a concerned citizen raising alarms over a critical national security threat: offshoring the core coding and fabrication of our chips and software left vital infrastructure vulnerable to foreign espionage and cyberattacks right here in WA state. Seeking solutions, I sent my research to my Congresswoman and every lawmaker in the state, hoping someone would alert the American people. I was never permitted to speak with them directly. Our community deserves leaders who listen and communicate. I am running for Congress to secure our technological sovereignty and ensure everyday citizens always have a seat at the table.
I would support policies that break up healthcare and insurance network monopolies which are buying up multiple healthcare markets and creating massive conflicts of interest. Our insurers should not be providing healthcare. Free up the markets and give patient's choice. I would be for transparency in pricing, helping make costs more affordable by expanding HSAs and deregulating telehealth. Skyrocketing cost of living is a result of the continued exponential concentration of wealth being transferred to Wall Street from Main Street; the result of quantitative easing and inflation, which is a hidden tax and should be considered theft. I would be for a thorough, transparent overhaul of the Federal Reserve and I would investigate offshoring tax burdens that weaken our strategic capacity.
Congress' duty to restore trust lies in defending the Constitution and addressing foreign influence in our elections. Public confidence is shaken because our country and way of life are being subverted both from enemies without and within. We are being bombarded by contrived crises thought up in think tanks, funded by global foundations, and herding Americans toward polarizing ends. A house divided cannot stand. We must mandate exposure of the dark money funding the think tanks designing these foreign malign influence operations and close FARA loopholes for domestic proxies taking foreign cash. Block PAC spending by US firms with significant foreign ownership. Tech platforms must be made to audit algorithms for polarizing bots. We must demand paper ballots counted at the precinct level.
It’s an illusion of central planning that a few bureaucrats in D.C. can balance an entire nation's ecosystem and economy. Economic growth and environmental stewardship are not mutually exclusive. Our priority should be to maximize American potential. When people are prosperous, they look for cleaner and more efficient ways to live. So, help them prosper, remove regulatory barriers, then free up the markets to innovate and solve these problems instead of shutting down industries. Effective environmentalism is grounded in property rights. Pollution is property damage. A system based on legal torts would be preferable to EPA mandates and regulations that cap liability. Give the people living in these communities the ability to be made whole for the damage caused by irresponsible polluters.
There are no ideal solutions, only trade-offs. Congress cannot "balance" these issues because the sole Constitutional duty of government is to its citizens. Protecting national sovereignty and upholding the rule of law should be the priorities for all government servants. Corporate labor demands are political code for cheap labor that depresses domestic wages and hurts American innovation. We must enforce the rule of law; an unsecure border undermines our entire system and places an involuntary burden on taxpayers. Immigrants are not abstract labor units. They bring distinct cultures with them. Without a strong emphasis on assimilation, we risk the balkanization of our society, which is why communitarians organize mass border crossings, as a strategy to weaken American sovereignty.
The lack of affordable housing and rising cost of living are the top issues affecting the First District, driven by a predatory financial system taxing our most basic needs with high interest rates and shady fractional reserve banking practices. The Federal government's role is to use its constitutional power to protect the national currency and reform monetary policy that is destructive to American working families, build and maintain vital infrastructure, and remove barriers to small and medium sized businesses.
