Representatives are elected to two-year terms, so the total membership of the House is up for election each even-numbered year.During legislative sessions, the Legislature is called upon to: enact or reject legislation affecting public policy in the state; provide for the levy and collection of taxes and other revenue to support state government and assist local government; and appropriate funds for these purposes. The House also has the exclusive power to bring impeachment proceedings. Although laws are enacted only when the Legislature is convened in formal session, policy issues and the general operation of state and local government are under continuous review by legislators serving on permanent and interim study committees.

After 25 years in and around government advocating for good public policy, I will use my experience to serve the people of the 18th Legislative District and Washington State as a whole. I serve on the Clark County Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board and previously on the State Council on Developmental Disabilities for over 10 years. I hold a Master’s in Public Policy and Public Administration from USC, a BA in Political Science from CSU Northridge, and have worked with first responders during some of the country’s worst natural disasters. I retired from the City of Sacramento in 2017 and moved to Southwest Washington to fulfill my dream of living in the PNW and have owned 2 successful small businesses.
My top budget priorities are ensuring funding for K-12 by not depending on people to tax themselves; getting appropriate funding levels for special education. and work to enact a less regressive tax system. The Millionaire's Tax is a start.
As a former Public Information Officer, communications is in my wheel house. I believe we need a strong public information campaign to ensure voters, of every color, gender identity, neurodiversity and vulnerable communities that it is both safe and imperative that they vote to reverse the tide that we are seeing at the Federal level. We must get people to follow the advice of when and where to drop their ballots to prevent the Federal government from refusing ballots because of arbitrary dates for which they do not have jurisdiction via the guise of the US Postal Service, We must knock on doors and post on social media and reach voters where they are.
-Housing first with support services to address mental illness and addiction.
-Responsible Gun Laws which the incumbent regularly votes against
-Adequate funding for public safety that includes informed training of officers
Please see my response to the question regarding major issues in my District. In addition to the Maddox Company buying up acres all over Battle Ground and being the employer of the Current Mayor and husband of the Vice Mayor, they recently bought the local newspaper "The Reflector". This is frightening as we need unbiased freedom of the press yet now it will be as right wing as Clark County Today and full of misinformation. How can journalism be independent and reliable when they must answer to the corporation that is intent on buying up Battle Ground to reproduce Moscow, Idaho right here? People will not get objective stories. They will only get propaganda. We have seen this on the Federal stage with Stephen Colbert, CBS, and the WSJ and we are seeing similar tactics right here at home.
Honestly, I'd want input from those affected to see if we need to redistrict again or not. Thus far, I have heard from voters in Southwest Washington that they were surprised when their district changed but it did not seem to bother anyone. I'm very open to this discussion on this topic to ensure I represent my district properly and serve the state as a whole.
There are several challenges facing the 18th LD and they provide opportunities to change the system. Firstly, the City of Battle Ground appears to be taken over by a private company and its church that is proud to call itself Christian Nationalists. The Mayor works for that company as does the Vice Mayor's husband. There are several conflicts of interest involved as well as a true shift in the values of the City Council including a refusal to issue a Pride Proclamation and creating new proclamations for support of ICE, calling ANTIFA a terrorist organization and in support of 'God sanctioned' nuclear families.
Of course there is the issue of affordability and the way we fund public education. We cannot continue to depend on people voting to tax themselves through levies and bonds.
