In high school, Tim played sports and was a member of the Sea Cadets. In 1987, Tim joined theUS Navy and served this country for 38+ years on active duty and as a contractor. His career took him around the world, serving in multiple theaters from the first Gulf War to modern-day Afghanistan to counter-narcotics operations in South and Central America. "My wife, Maria, and I met in high school. We have 3 sons and 3 grandsons. 30 years ago, the Navy brought us to Whidbey Island, and we fell in love with the area and have been here ever since. We have a small farm in Island County where we raise farm animals from cows to chickens. We enjoy gardening, boating, fishing, hiking, and exploring the great Pacific Northwest.
As Governor Gregoire recently stated, Washington does not have a revenue problem they have a spending problem. The first thing we need to do is end the income tax before it gets out of hand. That forces the hand of government to spend based on priorities not feelings and buying of votes. We have so many programs and expenditures that are based on just that, rather than the basic responsibilities of government. There is not a program in WA that is not over budget and overpriced. Ferry construction and development, Highway culverts for a fish that never used that stream anyway, Needles and drug paraphernalia for addicts to help them stay addicted, empty busses and trains, climate change theft, and the list goes on. Smart responsible spending on necessary for the people projects.
Verify voter rolls with a picture ID that was granted based on citizenship. Get back to Election Day, a day in which we vote and know the results on the same day, like we have done for 225 years prior to mail in voting. I have witnessed elections in a multitude of foreign countries, from developed to extremely undeveloped. In every instance they require proof of who you are to vote. In Afghanistan you have to put an inked fingerprint on your ballot! This is not a hard issue to fix. If we want everyone to believe in the vote than the vote has to be transparent, and not dragged out for weeks. A huge majority of Americans believe we need stronger voter ID laws, and that is from all sides. This is not a D vs. R thing. This is a what’s going to give the people confidence in the elections.
We need to have resolve in the fact that the criminal is not the victim. Judicial reform is essential to our ability to have true justice. Our state courts are stacked with 40 years of one sided ideological justices and staff. If Justice is truly blind than we need to prove it. We need to end catch and release, allow police to do their jobs and treat them with the respect that they deserve and have earned by doing a job most people won’t do. Bring morality back to the forefront of our society. We need to realize that the majority of crime is committed by a small minority of people. By finding and stopping this small group we can drastically reduce crime. A good start would be our legislature not creating laws that hamstring police while promoting leniency in criminal activity.
Local news is the news that has the largest effect on us. Local journalists should not be banned or denied because of political belief or leanings. If anything they should be listened to so we can have a diverse discussion on the events that have the biggest impact on us here in WA and LD10. If you do not agree with the way a news event is covered than watch a different commentator. As we all know the left accuses the right of lying and fabrication and the right accuses the left of the same thing. The truth is somewhere in the middle.
I feel that the redistricting in general has been fair in WA State. There are always exceptions, and there is always room for improvement. I do believe that districts should be based on numbers and geographic location period. There is no room for racial or other gerrymandering. If we truly strive for an equality based system then we need to take race out of it.
Affordability and business environment! My kids can’t afford to live where they were brought up! Farmers can’t afford the labor they need to have. Businesses especially farms in LD10 are being regulated out of existence by a government that is supposed to promote them. In essence the government tells workers and businesses what’s best for them regardless of what the businesses and workers believe! There are countless examples of our government telling us how we are supposed to live and act without considering us! It’s a reversal of what government is supposed to be, FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE, Instead its Government revenue regardless of the people. They tell us what we want and need instead of asking us! So Farms, business and affordability necessarily have to be our priority.
