As your next commissioner my top priorities are ensuring that El Paso County maintains and secures our resources for many generations to come by aligning with the El Paso County Master plan in land and water use. Increasing funding and improving public safety and response times because every person has inherent value and should not be put on hold. It is the job of every elected official to be accountable to the people, to hear their concerns and steward resources in a way that honors the people and the county. I have heard the concerns of the constituents and so many of them feel as though they have not been heard and their concerns pushed aside. One of the first things I will do as your next commissioner is make sure that every constituent is heard.
Approving large scale budgets is one of the main jobs of the commissioner, but also evaluating those budgets by line item and identifying areas of improvement are also necessary. With the extensive experience I have running a tight budget for a small business, I am perfectly suited to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are used widely. There are several main questions I ask when approving budgetary items. Does this improve the lives of the citizens? Is this with in the current budget and if not how will this be funded without burdening the people with more taxes? Does this work for or against the people of the county? As your next commissioner, it is my job to steward taxpayer resources expertly and transparently.
The definition of representative is to "stand in the place of another." I feel the people of District 1 have been speaking for the last 4 years and they have not been heard or considered in the decision making process. As your next Commissioner for District 1, I would ensure the people of the district were properly heard again. After experiencing the back door corruption that goes on in the county commission myself, calling out the previous clerk and recorder in 2022 for not taking a bid on election materials out to other vendors, which is a requirement, but instead giving it to his friend at runbeck election systems, whose wife sits on the board of Commissioners, I decided that those actions, regardless of political party, were uncalled for and needed to be remedied. As your next commissioner, I am committed to transparency and integrity in the process.
