I bring years of experience in business ownership, aerospace, and military sales, where accountability, accuracy, organization, and building trusted relationships are essential. Running my own business has given me firsthand experience managing finances, budgets, expenses, and making responsible decisions with limited resources. My professional background has also taught me the importance of meeting deadlines, maintaining accurate records, communicating clearly, and following established procedures. I would bring those skills to the Treasurer’s office while continuing to learn the specific requirements of township finance and Michigan law.
One challenge is making sure Cedar Creek remains financially responsible while continuing to provide the services residents expect. For the Treasurer’s office specifically, accurate tax collection, safeguarding public funds, timely reporting, and transparency are fundamental responsibilities. I also believe Cedar Creek faces the broader challenge of managing change and future development while preserving the rural character and sense of community that residents value. The township is currently considering significant land-use questions, including a proposed moratorium concerning data-center applications, which illustrates the importance of careful long-term planning.
I believe Cedar Creek should focus on responsible budgeting, accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and making financial information understandable and accessible to residents. As Treasurer, I would review existing procedures, work closely with the deputy treasurer and other township officials, and look for practical ways to improve efficiency without sacrificing accountability. Cedar Creek already provides residents with several ways to make tax payments, including the township office, mail, a drop box, and participating bank branches; I would build on systems that work while looking for opportunities to make township services more convenient and transparent.
