Carbon County Sheriff
The Sheriff is elected to a four-year term and is the county’s chief law enforcement officer. The sheriff’s office patrols unincorporated areas, operates the county jail, serves court documents, and works closely with local police departments (such as in Price and Helper). In Carbon County, the sheriff is also a key figure in emergency response, search and rescue, and coordination with state and federal agencies, particularly given the region’s rural terrain and outdoor recreation areas.

I believe in accountability to the community. Trust is earned from the Sheriff's Office through fair and equitable enforcement of the laws, open communication from the Sheriff as well as from the citizens and quality outreach engaging the public concerns and addressing public safety.
I am a firm believer in making sure the deputies and civilian staff are taken care of, because when they are taken care of, they will take care of the community. The mental wellbeing of the staff is paramount. This is achieved through peer-support programs, wellness checks and other mental health programs to assist staff members in maintaining their mental wellbeing. Quality equipment is also a necessity. I will strive to make sure all deputies have quality equipment to effectively perform their duties. I also want to make sure the command structure of the office aligns with current operational goals and provides advancement opportunities for the deputies.
Prevention and education play a large part in reducing drug-related crime. These programs should start early, foster an environment of support within the community and within the Sheriff's Office to build and maintain a strong relationship with the citizens.
In my experience law enforcement must have proper training in order to effectively address these types of calls. I believe the Crisis Intervention Team training and certification through CIT Utah is an effective training and I will strive to implement this certification for all deputies both within the corrections and patrol operations. I will also continue to work with our community partners in mental health and cirisis response within the county as well as the Sheriff's Office.
My top priorities when elected Sheriff are to ensure the deputies and civilian employees are supported through the office of Sheriff, and the command staff. This will be done with clear expectations for all employees and yearly evaluations completed to ensure continued progress. I also wish to evaluate the current command structure within the office to ensure the operational goals are met and the effeciency of the office is increased. I look forward to continuing the good relationships with the law enforcement agencies and citizens of Carbon County.
