I am running to retain my seat on the Weber School
Board to continue the work I've started. I am motivated to help parents and families navigate and improve their student's public school experience. I want to work to improve student outcomes across the district, help our teachers feel valued, create good board policy while improving the district's fiscal responsibility to taxpayers.
The top 3 issues facing Weber School District is declining enrollment, decreased school funding, and improving student outcomes. We are working toward creating more school choice options for families to entice more students back into public education, including our new CTE center, online options as well as improving our Dual Language Immersion options for all families. I want to continue my work on the Finance committee to create transparency with the public on the complexities of school finance and show how we're spending tax payer money, including creating a transparent long-term capital and school safety plan. As a board, I also want to increase our focus on tying funding directly to student outcomes.
I have served on the Weber School Board for 3.5 years. I currently sit on the Finance, Insurance, Policy, and Overnight Travel committee. I am also a delegate for the Utah School Board Association delegate assembly. I've spent the past three years working on crafting district policies and am now focused on our long-term financial plan. Previous to my work on the board, I was PTSA President at my children's junior high and high school as well as Weber Council PTA President for three years. I also served on the Region 2 PTA board and have spent the last four years as a member of the Utah PTA Legislative Advocacy Committee. I have created relationships with my local legislators to work together on good education policy.
As part of the policy committee, I helped to revise our Board Policy 8200 - Library Materials. I believe that we need to uphold state law in our library selection and allow our media specialists to have local control to curate their collections to meet the needs of their school populations.
Weber School District has started requiring each school to create School Success Plans which combine their School LAND Trust and TSSA plans and aligning both with our strategic plan Elevate 28. Our educators are working diligently to increase ELA and math scores by working collaboratively to bring all students up to grade level in reading and math.
I update my Facebook page monthly after each board meeting to let parents and families know what action was taken each month. I always ask for feedback. Parents in my district know that I am available any time to meet in person to talk on the phone about any concern they have.
