Occupation Non-Profit Leader
As a nonprofit leader and community organizer, I have spent my career working with community members and elected officials to advocate for policies that improve the lives of communities where I live and work. With this experience, I will work towards meeting the MOMENT in Katy ISD. We need our local leaders to find informed and diplomatic solutions to the unprecedented challenges public education is facing in our state. As a community organizer in Katy ISD, I worked to ensure that families are informed and engaged in decisions that affect their schools. I have organized community members to attend school board meetings, provided updates about district policies & helped amplify the voices of families who want strong inclusive public schools.
If elected my top priority will be to represent the students, families, and educators in the district. To that end I believe that two of the core issues facing Katy ISD right now are educator retention and outcomes for students. Improving student outcomes starts with hiring and retaining qualified educators who communicate well with students. If elected I will advocate as trustee for increased public funding at the federal and state levels. I will also explore available grant resource options to offset supply costs that are often passed on to educators, keeping their paychecks in their pockets. Additionally as trustee I will partner with community colleges to host trade and community college fairs where students can explore future pathways.
