Office Sought Kootenai County Commissioner
As your current county commissioner, these have been and will continue to be my top three priorities. 1. Keeping Your Taxes Lower By Tackling Irresponsible Growth and Making Growth Pay for Itself -- currently residents are burdened with paying for growth. I've been working vigorously to impose impact fees and avoid subsidizing other taxing jurisdictions with your county tax dollars. 2. Properly Funding Public Safety -- This comprises >55% of our county budget. Safer communities translate into a higher quality of life for you. 3. Keeping Government Small By Doing More with Less Government Staff -- staffing comprises 75% of the county budget. Whenever we can do more work with fewer staff it means lower taxes for you.
We are watching the stresses of big city life encroaching here. Sadly, growth does not pay for itself, which means you are forced to. I’m committed to properly managing growth so we can avoid taxing people out of their homes. If you want to see more responsible growth; strong public safety; and greater government transparency, then I ask for your support May 19. I’ve written many articles on my website discussing my policies, and how they can positively affect your life in Kootenai County. There is still much work to be done so the systems are in place to properly manage growth and link us with our local cities.
I think the most important issue for anyone engaged in the political process, including voting, is to focus on good “policy.” People should think about what policies will get them the results they want.

Then find and back candidates who will impose these policies and get you results. If you want lower taxes while preserving the charm of Kootenai County, then you should want a more responsible, lower density growth policy.

If you want a safe community, then you should want policies that focus on properly funding our public safety. The kind of density policy we choose will determine the cost of public safety.

And if we want lower taxes, then we need to establish measurables and determine the service levels we want from local government.
I would like to think that my policy platform, voting record and public engagement as your current county commissioner speaks for itself. I will continue to hold townhalls on important subjects, speak at public gatherings and answer any question about my voting record and/or policy platform. Ultimately, I represent all of the citizens of Kootenai County and report to them. I hope to continue to earn your support.
