Office Sought Bonneville County Coroner
Our rapid growth and changing demographics have brought complex challenges to our doorstep. The three most critical challenges facing Bonneville County today are the evolving substance abuse crisis, the devastating impact of untreated mental illness, and the need to modernize our medicolegal death investigations to keep pace with our growing population. To address this, my approach is rooted in data-driven transparency and inter-agency collaboration. We must actively share real-time data and by acting as an early warning system, we can direct community resources. The silent epidemic of severe mental illness and suicide is tearing at the fabric of our community. I know intimately how gaps in crisis intervention lead to tragedy. When I investigate a death, I don't just look at the physical cause of death; I try to look to understand the systemic failures. Adhering to the rigorous national standards requires highly trained personnel and continuous education that I stay current on.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Idaho State University and a Master of Science in Forensic Psychology from Arizona State University, specializing in Investigative Criminology and Severe Mental Illness and Violent Crime. In addition, I hold a Medicolegal Death Investigator certification from the University. Demonstrating my commitment to the field, I adhere to national standards in all manners of death investigation and have personally completed over 50 continued education credits in death investigation this last year alone. In addition, I have been the lead coroner/investigator in hundreds of deaths throughout my career and in all manners of death from various types of accidents, homicides, suicides, infants, and natural deaths. In addition, I further establish my expertise by serving as a recognized keynote speaker and educator in medicolegal death investigation for various agencies, school systems, and for fellow investigators across the state.
I believe the Coroner’s Office should be a resource for the living, not just a record of the deceased. I will continue my engagement through three primary methods: Education, Direct Communication, Collaborative Leadership, and Accessibility. I will remain a keynote speaker and educator for our schools, law enforcement, and local agencies, sharing vital data on substance abuse and mental health to prevent future tragedies. I will prioritize clear, compassionate updates for grieving families. I am committed to ensuring that every constituent receives the answers they deserve with the dignity they are owed. By working alongside law enforcement and health providers, I ensure our findings translate into public safety improvements, making the Coroner’s Office a true partner in our county’s well-being. I will maintain a trauma-informed approach, ensuring grieving families have direct access to resources, empathy, and the clear answers they need for closure.
