Nez Perce County Commissioner, Dist. 2
The main focus is lobbying to raise the homeowners' exemption for property owners from $125,000 to $150,000 (or higher). Focus on the county budget for any areas of waste. Set a goal to be the most efficient county in the State of Idaho, with a review of all department budgets with department leaders. Streamline processes where possible. Clear communication with the county communities. Assist smaller communities in our county with their needs using whatever means we have. Stronger ties with Valley Vision Economic Development and assist wherever we can.
5.5 Years as past President & CEO of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce. Committees included Finance, Natural Resources, and Government Affairs. Graduate of: US Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organizational Management, Graduate Northwest Economics Development Institute, Graduate Northwest Community Development Institute.
Property Taxes. Homes are appreciating faster than people's income, causing some homeowners to be taxed out of their homes. It will take a combination of budget tightening and the homeowners' exemption being raised, plus adding more available homes to increase inventory, to reduce home prices and property taxes. The Lewiston area is blessed to have quite a few homebuilders and developers increasing available home inventory.
I'm very proud to be a conservative Republican for 44 years. I've been a community leader for just about the same length of time. The Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, under my leadership, became the 5th largest chamber in the state of Idaho as Lewiston was only the 10th largest city in the state during the time period of 2004 to 2010. When dealing with community issues, I'm always looking for win-win solutions. A great way to secure buy-in with your community.

Nez Perce County Commissioner
Nez Perce County is a wonderful place, and one that I am proud to call home. With any home, you need to do routine maintenance. Our county government is hard to participate with because they have mid-day meetings when most people are at work and can’t engage. If elected, I will push for one or two evening meetings a month that allow public comment. I’d also focus on reducing property tax by budget reduction/de-regulating county building codes. Our county has fat in the budget. When people are screaming for property tax relief, we need to make the hard decisions on how to operate the county. I want Nez Perce County to be pro-building, pro-fiscal discipline, and pro-transparency.
The County Commissioners wear many hats, to include supervising the fire department, juvenile detention, adult/juvenile probation, and emergency manager. The Commissioners also set budgets for criminal justice departments. As a Law Enforcement Officer with a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, I have a unique set of skills to help our county understand the roles of first responders while also setting policy. I also have many years of non-profit experience setting budgets and working on personnel issues. I served on the board of directors for the local Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Willow Center, and Back the Blue LCV. My decades of professional and educational experience will help drive Nez Perce County forward.
Property tax. Through a coordinated plan on reducing government spending, cutting red tape for more building, and increasing transparency within Nez Perce County, we will help with property tax. The Idaho Legislature is the only entity that can set the home owners exemption. Real tax property tax relief is only done through cutting spending and building more taxable properties.
Simply put, I will work every day to make Nez Perce County better. If elected, I will no longer be a police officer and will be a full-time commissioner. My wife, Erin, works in a law firm and my step-daughter, Kasi, is a kindergarten teacher in Lewiston. In my house, we have a rule that we are not allowed to complain without a solution. Over the last few years, I have complained about the government overreach in ordinances and property tax rising every year. If I have the honor of serving Nez Perce County, I will work for the citizens and not the bureaucracy. My entire platform for this campaign is to bring the government back down to the people. Vote Nick Woods May 19th.
