Camas County Commissioner District 2
The three-member Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the county. County Commissioner is the only office that has legislative, executive and judicial responsibilities and duties. Commissioners have the power to pass ordinances, adopt budgets, fix tax levy rates and oversee the county budget. They are charged with the duty of supervising the official conduct of all county officers as their conduct relates to public monies and revenues, as well as supervising appointed boards and committees. They also act as the Board of Equalization. The Board sits as a quasi-judicial body to hear various matters, including planning and zoning requests, property valuation protests and requests for cancellation of taxes, and indigent issues among many others.

County Commissioner, District 2
Camas County people have been dealing with economic headwinds for a long time due to our rural circumstances, remoteness, modest population, and decades of national wage downdrift compared to cost of living and surviving. In this setting, the County is mandated to respectfully deliver essential services: roads, justice, law enforcement, weed management, public health, and courthouse services. To address this, I propose to faithfully support County employees, all 33 of them, in doing their vital work for the County's people. They all know what they're doing, but a part-time Commissioner can help foster a humane workplace where people enjoy working.
I propose to continue working as a Board member to deal productively with our Forest Service partners. Those relationships are important to maintaining our outdoor recreation offerings and associated business opportunities for our constituents.
Like my Board colleagues, I'm smart, attentive and honest. I'm a skilled reader and writer. I have nine years of experience as a Camas County Commissioner, including nine County budget creation cycles, a sometimes abstruse and almost occult process. Before that, I served 11 years as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner, and many years of volunteer service here.
We work in public, and we welcome attendance at meetings by constituents and others. Our county is a small county with one small town, and I'm widely involved in things. I engage with constituents all the time.
