Butte County Commissioner District 1

The three-member Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the county. County Commissioner is the only office that has legislative, executive and judicial responsibilities and duties. Commissioners have the power to pass ordinances, adopt budgets, fix tax levy rates and oversee the county budget. They are charged with the duty of supervising the official conduct of all county officers as their conduct relates to public monies and revenues, as well as supervising appointed boards and committees. They also act as the Board of Equalization. The Board sits as a quasi-judicial body to hear various matters, including planning and zoning requests, property valuation protests and requests for cancellation of taxes, and indigent issues among many others.

Office Sought Butte County Commissioner
Butte County has very limited financial resources. With a limited population and tax base, we have finite resources to cover our large size. There are un-tapped prospects to get help at the state and federal level. I will take the time to hunt down the potential aid and work hard to make sure that Butte County has sought every avenue to acquire the support needed. I also plan to dive deep into the finances of Butte County to make sure we are getting the most for each dollar.

Population fluctuation is another challenge for Butte County. Over 30% of Butte County’s residents are 60 and older. That makes the next 25 years crucial for our population. We don't need an influx of people to move here, but instead we need to give future generations reasons to stay. I have been working to accomplish that as a private citizen by volunteering for community services and pursuing opportunities to make improvements. I would continue this at a higher level as a County Commissioner.
I have a diverse set of skills that would qualify me for this role. I enjoy finding solutions to difficult problems and I have successfully pursued grants and assistance programs for our community through my volunteer work. I have a degree in Business Marketing which includes accounting and finance classes, so I understand financial reports and budgeting. How our government works has always intrigued me, and I have attended many County Commissioners meetings and legislative sessions throughout the last two decades to learn the mechanics of government. I am constantly out in the community talking to residents of Butte County, so I have ideas about what citizens want, and I can take that and turn it into action. I learn from each experience, gain knowledge, and implement that understanding to solve problems.
The groups that I volunteer for organize many of the large local events including the King Mountain Car Show, the Fall Festival, and Atomic Days as well as many smaller events. Constantly being in the community has helped me keep my thumb on the pulse of the wants and needs of the people of Butte County. I am a board member for the Lost River Electric Cooperative, the Moore Canal Water Users Association, the Moore Community Association, and the Pretty City Committee. I also regularly attend Butte Soil and Water Conservation District meetings, Moore City Council meetings and Butte County Commissioner's meetings. In addition to that I am often a substitute teacher for the school district. That commitment to a wide variety of local institutions and their respective demographics will keep me engaged with a wide variety of the Butte County constituents.
