Bear Lake County Commissioner District 2

The three-member Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the county. County Commissioner is the only office that has legislative, executive and judicial responsibilities and duties. Commissioners have the power to pass ordinances, adopt budgets, fix tax levy rates and oversee the county budget. They are charged with the duty of supervising the official conduct of all county officers as their conduct relates to public monies and revenues, as well as supervising appointed boards and committees. They also act as the Board of Equalization. The Board sits as a quasi-judicial body to hear various matters, including planning and zoning requests, property valuation protests and requests for cancellation of taxes, and indigent issues among many others.

The balance between county growth in our resort areas and our agricultural and historically traditional way of life needs to be recognized. The county strategic plan and the planning and zoning ordinances need to be updated to reflect the new challenges facing county residents that are different from those perceived 20 years ago. I bring 36 years of economic development and banking experience to the county and I am trained in ways to do strategic and financial planning.
I have a degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University and recently retired after a 39 year career in banking and serving in various volunteer organizations in the county. I served 6 years as an elected member of the Montpelier City Council, 15 years as a board member of Bear Lake Memorial Hospital, and 12 years as a commissioner and chair of the Idaho Commission on the Arts so I also have government experience. As a banker, I have helped to finance new and expand existing businesses, created business and agricultural budgets and offered sound financial advice. Finally, community service has been a bedrock of my career where I have served on many of the non-profit and service organization boards as a volunteer. Organizations include The National Oregon/California Trail Center, Montpelier Community Foundation, Paris Lions Club, Bear Lake Valley Health Care Foundation, Montpelier Gem Team, Bear Lake Development Corporation and the Bear Lake Music Festival.
I have always been an open book welcoming viewpoints from anyone. We may not always agree, but opposing viewpoints should be heard and pondered in order to learn in a civil society. My phone number, email and messaging is always available to anyone wishing to contact me.

Government transparency and I have a plan to begin addressing that. Short term rental impact on our local communities. There is a plan proposed by a local resident that can help. Our Senior Center staying open. We are working with someone that has a proven ability to turn it around.
I started my own business here in 2018 and run my customer service department where I have learned to listen in order to understand my customers problems and then find solutions.
I have set up a constituent phone line, email, FB and website much like I have in my business.
