I was appointed to this judgeship in 2024 to hear Criminal, Civil, and Chancery matters. I have a passion for justice and want to continue serving in this way. As a career prosecutor, I had many many opportunities to work with victims and though my role as a judge different, I continue to serve the citizens. When people come into the courtroom, my goal is to inspire confidence in our judicial system. I listen carefully, endeavor to speak wisely, deliberate soberly and rule impartiality. Interestingly, Socrates said those four traits are required of a good judge. It is imperative that every litigant, witness, and attorney feel that when they are in court, their case is the most important case that I have.
I have over 20 years as a prosecutor and during those years I headed several special units including child homicide and child abuse, gang unit and special victims unit. I tried approximately 200 jury trials as a prosecutor and over 25 jury trials as a judge. In addition, I have over a decade in the civil arena. Having significant experience in both civil and criminal law endured that my transition to the bench was seamless. It is imperative for a trial judge to actually have courtroom experience and because zi CID, I was able to do the job on day one. Frankly there is nothing in criminal court that I haven’t done myself and my broad experience in civil matters has given me the necessary experience to continue in this role.
First of all, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution. A person’s race, age, gender, religion, political affiliation or other trait, is not a consideration in my rulings. No person is above the law and every person is entitled to the protection of the law. A good judge won’t always like the decisions she reaches when following the law, and if she does…. she is probably doing something wrong. I’m proud that in the recent Sumner County Bar Association bar poll, I received 88% highly recommend and recommend ratings from the lawyers. I wouldn’t have received the bar’s overwhelming support if I did not demonstrate fairness and impartiality in the courtroom.
