I bring to the Metropolitan Court bench nearly two decades of legal practice and experience in diverse areas of law. Most recently, I served a a Special Commissioner in the Second Judicial Children's Court overseeing juvenile delinquency, mental health civil commitments, and abuse/neglect matters. I began my legal career as an Assistant District Attorney and transitioned to civil litigation, criminal defense, and child welfare.
In the year that I have been at the Metropolitan Court, I have seen that the procedures and resources available to the community are above par. The staff, security, and programs that provide assistance to individuals involved in cases are important to the dockets running smoothly and efficiently. That being said, the court recognizes that there is always room for improvement, adaptation, and change and regularly listens to suggestions from the public.
The training provided has been exceptional and continuous. After a year on the bench, I still regularly confer with other judges in the building on courtroom management, legal matters, and courtroom skills. This continued support and open communication is imperative to all judges who are faced with community members who find themselves in highly emotional and difficult situations.
I am a native New Mexican raised in the North Valley. I love and have served my community through pro bono legal services, serving on boards and committees, and returning each year as faculty at the UNM School of Law. Supporting, educating, and giving back to my community, to make it that much stronger, has always been and continues to be important to me.
